RB Rotary Club Meeting Thursday, September 11, 2014
President Don Glover presided over this special evening meeting (Appetizers and Drinks). Great fun!
To memorialize this historic date, The pledge of allegiance was lead by eagle scout candidate Trent Norvell and it was recited before a USA Flag that displayed the names of all the deceased members of the 9/11 tragedy. Thanks to President Don for providing the flag.Scout Trent Norvell was rewarded through the generosity of our members with a donation of $380. toward the completion of his eagle scout project :a bench to be constructed at the 4S Ranch Library.
President Elect Arilla presented an inspirational thought for the day.
In the absence of Sargent-at Arms Vern Cook, Larry Saunders and Bill Bonner did a great job with the set-up and take-down duties. New member James Kaspar was our eveing photographer.
Jim Sommer was our greeter even though it was his wife Karen’s birthday. There were many visitors including about twelve spouses of Rotarians.
Our membership chairman Jim Hyldahl stood with Kathy Glover as she was inducted as a new member by president Don, her husband. Another great Rotary Family and kudos to Past President Jim for keeping us on track with four new members this year. Our “Family of Rotary” report included clarification of the time and date for a celebration of life event at the Bernardo Heights Country Club for Paul Casterline at 3:30 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2014. We all miss Paul. We also learned that John O’Neill is again going to undergo surgery; this time to repair his knee. We wish him the very best! Vern Cook was absent tonight after discoverey of a diverticulitis condition. Get well Vern. Eat your roughage!
The continuing benefical work of our RB Rotary Club Foundation has resulted in donations of $32,080. We will hear more on this later from Foundation President Benita Paige.
Jim Hyldahl introduced Judy Jones-Cone, owner and CEO of Toyota and Lexus of Carlsbad and the magnificent Lexus of Escondido. It was truly a story of leadership with great success in a man’s world. Arilla acted as fine mistress for the evening and asked all owners of a Lexus to stand and pay a $5.00 fine. I had no idea that so many of members drove a Lexus and I am sure the speaker was pleased to see it as well.
P.P. Jim did his normal creative and superb job in selecting a book for donation to the Rancho Bernard Middle School in the name of our speaker.
The meeting closed with immediate P.P. Gary Saks delivering an inspirational thought for the day.
