RB Rotary Meeting Minutes October 9, 2014
President Don called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. The pledge was lead by Lou Anna Dickerson. Shirley Napierala gave the opening inspirational thought. The Greeter was Charley Crew. Matt De Louch of Abnormal Wine Company was there performing pouring’s of their wines for our guests and promoting his new venture Cork and Craft Restaurant. A big thank you to Francis and Rick for managing check-in. Our photographer for the evening and for all of our meetings is James Kasper. President Don reported that John O’Neill is on track and doing great in his recovery and we look forward to seeing him at the 50th Anniversary Celebration on December 4th. He also mentioned that memorial services for Paul Casterline will be on October 11th. A fundraiser for Lane Elliott will be held on October 15th at Bernardo Winery to help support her fight against cancer. Our next volunteer time at Ronald McDonald House will be on October 22, 2014. Nina Haines will be sending out an email with further details and how to sign up. The Rotary District 5340 Conference will be held on October 24-26 in Palm Desert. Please visit www.rotary5340.org for further details. Our meeting on October 30th will be themed as “The Magic of Halloween” and will promise many tricks and treats for all. President Don also reminded all to save the date of December 4, 2014 for our 50th Anniversary celebration and that invitations would be sent out in a couple of weeks.
President Don then awarded Ed Knight with a special rotary pin from Rotary International for sponsoring a brand new member into our Rotary club. Arilla The Hun then took the mic and proceeded to pillage our Rotarians for fines and their happy bucks. Karen Stelman then introduced our guest speaker Del Ritchart who took us on his journey of “Genealogy Can Be Fun!”Del took us on his journey of “Breathing Life into his Ancestors” and what his research uncovered. He shared with us that there are 55 million family trees on ancestory.com’s site and that 2.1 billion people are in their database. Del said a great place to start is the San Diego Genealogical Society www.casdgs.oeg and the North San Diego County Genealogical Society www.nscdcgs.org . There are also genealogy software programs such as Family Tree Builder, Family Tree Maker, Roots Magic, and Legacy. There are also great ways to search for free and find out about your ancestry on www.ancestry.com , www.familysearch.org , www.google.com , www.mocavo.com , www.findagrave.com and www.nara.gov .
