9/8/22 Meeting Notes
The Rotary meeting was at the Heights C.C., in the smallest room we have held a meeting in decades. It was so cozy we did not require a microphone. President Alan Turner, our intrepid El Jefe, led us of in our traditional recitation of the 4-Way Test.

Jim Hyldahl was called upon to deliver the Pledge. He used the opportunity to read a moving tribute to the recently departed legendary Queen of England, Elizabeth. Her reign spanned 70 years, the longest in British history. Jim then asked President Alan for his perspective since was born in England. Long Live the Queen!
Toby Westbrook presented the Inspirational Message. He recounted his experience at our Vines& Vittles fundraiser where he handed out paid event tickets at the gate to people who may have been stressed at the $50 entrance fee.
Our Greeter was Charley Crew. He introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians. Joel Doss, baton in hand, led us in a snappy rendition of our welcome song. Also thanked was John O’Neill, who created the meeting notes as Scribe and Pat Chaffee and Joel Doss at the front desk.
President Alan began the announcements with Athenea Luciano, who is heading up our annual picnic at Lake Poway. She encouraged attendees to bring a favorite dessert. Athenea, who is the new RB Foundation President, reminded everyone that the deadline for submitting grant requests is October 20th. Ken Heinz announced that the annual Rotary Bowl football game between RBHS and Mt. Carmel will be played on October 14th at RBHS. He urged everyone to attend to enjoy the excitement.
Laura Mello, President of the RB morning Rotary Club, Informed us that  BEERnardo, Rancho Bernardo’s favorite beer festival, will be held at Webb Park on October 22nd. This outstanding event raises $110,000 to $115,000 to support their clubs’ Gifts and Grants. She asked us for volunteers to help out with pouring wine and beer, as well as serving food.
Finemaster John O’Neill, his ears ringing from the boos, bravely soldiered on by dropping the hammer on the helpless members by picking their pockets. Fines and Happy Bucks were collected from Mark Alberts, Ken Heinz and Alan Turner. Many other generous members also donated to the cause.
Mike Stelman informed us that his poinsettia supplier is no longer in business. This presents us the unfortunate fate of lack of funds for one our most honorable fundraisers. Hopefully, more positive information to follow.
Our speaker was Laura Mello. She has vast experience in planned giving, which she shared with us. If you are interested in this type of bequeathment please contact Laura for more information. Our speaker on September 15th will be our Assemblyman Brian Maienschein.

Respectfully submitted, John O’Neill
