9/29 Meeting Notes

This meeting featured the smallest number of attendees in years. It has been speculated that the missing members were in Montana on a fishing trip. After a thorough investigation has been conducted we will turn the results over to the finemaster for appropriate action.

President Alan Turner opened the meeting with our traditional recitation of the 4-Way Test. He introduced Ron Hunt who prefaced the Pledge with information about human rights. Next up was Bob Vaughn doing a Who Am I about his Rotary moments and what Rotary means to him. Our Greeter Dave Smith helped introduce visiting Rotarians and guests. Joel Doss, our conductor, led everyone in a spirited rendition of our welcome song. John O’Neill was thanked for being today’s Scribe.

Alan thanked the 35-40 members who attended the previous weeks’ picnic at Lake Poway.

Jim Reid announced that the first Poway Symphony Orchestra concert would be held on Sunday November 20th at 4pm. The venue is the Poway Center for Performing Arts. Special center seating will be reserved for our group, and tickets will be available as of September 30th, so make your reservations early.

Ken Heinz urged everyone to attend the Rotary Bowl on Friday October 14th, 7pm at RB High School. The teams battling this out are RB High School and Mount Carmel. This annual bowl game has been played for 29 straight years. Three players from each school will be joining us for lunch on October 13th where they will tell us about the game.

We were reminded that October 20th is the final day to submit matching gifts requests. John O’Neill, our beloved Finemaster, just asked for Happy Bucks, thereby saving certain members from heavy financial loss.

Our speaker was Jennifer Shen, a criminal justice crime scene investigator. She began by comparing what she does to CSI. For instance, CSI is filmed on dark sets, whereas her working space is brightly lit from uncovered windows. The team mostly tries to tie the crime to the doer. Also, since DNA is in virtually everything, they continually test it.

 Our calls to action:
Oct 6th – Joint meeting with the RB Sunrise Club
Oct 13th -- District Governor visit – Wear your End Polio Now t-shirts
Oct 14th – Rotary Bowl
