Scribe Notes

9-19-24

At 12:30pm, President Terry rang the bell and led us in Rotary’s “Statement of Values – the Four Way Test”, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

He thanked today’s volunteers: Greeter-Bob Vaughn; Scribe-Charlene Zettel; AV-Dave Brooks; Front Desk-Pat Chaffee and Joel Doss; Sgt. At Arms-Joel Doss; Photographer-Bill Brehm; Book Presenter-Cheryl Roop.

Our cheerful greeter, Bob Vaughn, introduced the only guest, today’s speaker. Nevertheless, she was very impressed with Joel’s enthusiasm, leading fellow Rotarians in our welcome song.

Marty Judge announced that our speaker of the day, Dr. Neil Farber, NASA Ambassador speaking on the “Magic of Mars”, suffered a back injury and was unable to come. Fortunately, Marilyn McPhie, an expert on ghosts and a master storyteller was able to fill in. She did not disappoint us and kept us entertained with stories of King Arthur and his encounter with a ghost in Green Chapel Glen, England. She also warned us there were recent ghost encounters in Poway and Rancho Bernardo! Cheryl Roop presented her with a book to sign as a thank you gift to be presented to the Rancho Bernardo Middle School to memorialize today’s presentation.

Celebrating their September birthdays today were Joel Doss, Bob Vaughn, Jim Hyldahl, and Jim Reid.

Family of Rotary: Sandie Dewane welcomed back Dan Barrios. She also reported that Don Glover was recovering from surgery.

Bob Vaughn was delighted to collect happy bucks from many Rotarians celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and other notable events.

Who am I: Rosalind Duddy thanked her club sponsors, Mike Fuqua and the late Arilla St. Laurent. She was born of Italian and Irish parents and described growing up in South Philly.

President Terry reminded us that our District Governor Dianne Crawford, a dynamic speaker and motivator, will be our guest at the next meeting, September 26.

District Rotary’s campaign “Uniting to Combat Hunger”, benefiting military and veteran families, will continue till Veterans’ Day. Please bring non-perishable foods for these deserving families who dedicated years of service to our nation.

President Terry’s Special Magic Recognition surprised Sandie Dewane, Shirley Napierala, Cheryl Roop and Charlene Zettel, honoring them with a special “Women in Rotary” pin.

President Terry asked us “What will you Rotary today”, rang the bell and adjourned the meeting at 1:30pm.

Respectfully submitted,
