We usually have about 10 members help serve dinner from 6:00 to 7:30.  The majority of our group needs to arrive at 4:00PM to prepare food and also stay after dinner to clean up until 8:00 PM. Rotary meeting minutes for 9/12/19

Co-Presidents Susan and David opened the meeting by leading us in reciting the motivational Rotary 4-Way Test. They recognized volunteers Don Glover as Greeter, Joel Doss, Toby Westbrook and Johanna Mullin for manning the check-in desk, plus Vern Cook leading the Pledge and Alex Robertson for giving the Inspirational Message. Also thanked were club photographer James Kaspar, John O’Neill as Meeting Volunteer Organizer and Scribe, plus setup by John Kasser and Bill Brehm.

Announcements included Shirley Napierala passing out End Polio Now tee shirts and Alex Robertson let us know there is an upcoming District LEAD training Assembly and advisors are needed for the October 19-20 event. President David invited us to join in a RB Sunrise on October 24th mixer and nine hole golf tournament at the RB Inn. Cost is $65 per player and includes food and drinks.

David discussed getting involved in the Guatemala Literacy Project sponsored by the Rotary club of Ohio Pathways. The GLP is the largest grassroots, multi-club, multi-district effort in the Rotary world not directed by RI itself, and is considered the gold standard of Rotary projects. There are four Guatemala service trips planned: Two in February and two and two in July.

Myrna de la Pena, a candidate for RB Honorary Mayor, introduced herself and asked for our support with her campaign.
We were excited to witness the induction of our newest member, Lisa de la Torre. Welcome Lisa!

On a sad note, we mourned the passing of fellow club member Maureen Rouleau. Her services and and celebration of life are scheduled for today and tomorrow. A poignant poem on her remembrance goes as follows:

Afterglow

I’d like the memory of me
To be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow of
Smiles when life is gone.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering
Softly down the ways,
Of happy times, and laughing times
And bright sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve
To dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.
