Our Co-Presidents called the meeting to order and we recited the Four Way Test in unison. Vern Cook led us in the pledge and Jim Hydahl gave the Inspirational Message. He also reminded us of the Oaks North Clean Up on Nov. 9th.

Our greeter was Charley Crew. He introduced Jen from Branches, the floral shop that donates flowers once a month to sell so we can raise money for our club. Please think of them when you need flowers. They are located in the Bernardo Winery.

Announcements:
Don Glover reminded us to get in our request for Foundation Grants and to buy your tickets for the Thanks-giving Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 22nd at the RB Inn. Tickets are now $60 but worth every penny! Dan Barrios put together envelopes thanking all of the members that contributed to the Rotary Foundation this past year. Great job as our rep Dan!

Lt. Col. Bortnem and his wife Melissa were our guests. He is the CO of the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 232 at Miramar. He wanted to personally thank our club for putting together all the "Peace (and Comfort)" bags that were delivered to Miramar in time to be given to the arriving squadron after a 6 month deployment. He also thanked our club for our generosity in providing the NCO Corporals sword at each graduation class on base. Then, he was kind enough to support our Poinsettia fund raiser by buying one box...a win win!!

Shirley passed around a sign up sheet for members to sign up to donate to Poway Adopt a Family project. The money goes to food and gifts for under privileged families who cannot afford the holiday expenses. It has always been a terrific success and it looks like it continues.

Pres. Susan announced that all proceeds from Fines and Happy Bucks will be donated to the End Polio Now Campaign both at this meeting and next weeks meeting. Great idea!

Diane Remick announced that the Tiajuana Rotary Club is celebrating their 88th Anniversary on Oct. 31st and have invited us to join them. The cost will be $35 for the dinner and the Marriott is offering their rooms for $95 so no one has to drive home that night. The club members have also offered to pick us up at the border crossing that afternoon and return us to our cars (on the US side) the next morning. Sounds like fun. Contact Diane for reservations.

Arilla did a "Fine" job filling in for John who was a little under the weather. Don Glover got hit pretty hard with fines for being in the local paper more than once, as was Cathy but I think she escaped without a fine!

Arilla also gave the Family of Rotary report which included John Mullins wife (Susan) who had a knee replacement and John O'Neill not feeling well. Bob Vaughn auctioned off a beautiful bouquet of flowers in a raucous bidding war between John Goodrich, Mike Fuqua and our guest, Lt. Col. Bortnem. The Lt. Col. won out at a whopping $70. Bob V. better watch out or he will become a permanent fixture on the auction block. Way to Go!

Alan Turner gave an update on why our club is so successful in bringing in new members. He said the #1 reason is people love the energy and friendship in our club (and Don Glover for all the new members he recruits).

Then on a happy note, our club inducted another new member, Mary Davis. Mary's classification is Financial Management. Mary has been a long time resident of this community and owned a very successful mortgage company.Jim Hyldahl is her Sponsor and Karen Stelman is her Mentor. Mary was asked to stand at the door as people left the meeting so we could all personally greet her. Welcome to the Club Mary. We know you will be a tremendous asset to RB Rotary.

Then it was Tom Kopocius' turn to do his Who Am I. He was extremely entertaining and we could see he has a great sense of humor. He was born in Chicago and has been married to his lovely wife Marti for 49 years. He played all four sports in school but baseball won out as his favorite and he played in the minor leagues for a few years. He worked in sales for most of his career, has two beautiful daughters and one grand daughter. He moved to San Diego in 1981 where he and Mike Stelman became friends and next door neighbors for many years. He has been very active in other organizations so giving and caring are already a part of his makeup. He will be an excellent addition to our club. Welcome to our newest member!

Pat Chafee introduced our speaker, Kale Evans whose business is Caring Transitions, a relocation service for people in their long time homes to Independent or Assisted Living type situations. They offer invaluable services such as "weeding out", packing up household items, donating unwanted items and giving them the best options to liquidate things their family may not want to "inherit". They will also go to the new residence and measure to make sure the furniture that is being moved will fit into the new spaces they will have. They will also auction off items on line and the money raised will be split with the family, 65% and 35% will go to Caring Transitions. It's an invaluable service for those in need. You can call for a free consultation at 858-218-0775 and ask for Kale Evans. Their web site is www.caringtransitionsdelsur. com.
