Meeting Minutes
November 8, 2018

President Doug brought our evening meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by new member Alan Turner, who spoke to us about the Boston Tea Party.

Alex Robertson inspired us with a story about the poppies in Flanders Fields, referencing 11/11/18, the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

Our greeter was past president Charley Crew and he introduced our guests. He then did a fabulous job of leading us in a well-paced, upbeat rendition of our Welcome Song.

Doug thanked our volunteers: room setup by Paul Donick; check-in by Joel Doss, Cathy Glover and Vern Cook; Bill Angus for doing the newsletter and these words + photography by your humble scribe, Dave Brooks.
Doug encouraged us to donate blood to honor the victims and assist those injured in the Thousand Oaks mass shooting. This request came from District Governor Mel Gallegos.

Community Service chair Vern Cook told us that we can sign holiday cards that will be sent to members of the military. We will do this after the 11/29 club meeting.
Past president Shirley Napierala reminded us that she is collecting for Adopt-a-Family. This will provide holiday gifts for families identified as in need by the PUSD.
Cathy Glover spoke about the See’s Candies Winter Fundraiser to provide funding for high school scholarships. She handed out order forms and a sheet showing what items are available and their cost. All orders must be placed by 11/29 at the club meeting. Last year this event raised $1600.
Alan Turner returned to the podium to publicize the Bring Your Own Game Luncheon fundraiser on Saturday, March 16, 2019. The cost to attend the event is $25/person and all proceeds will go to organizations RB Rotary has supported in the past. It will be held at the Seven Oaks Community Center and you must be over 18 years old to attend. The format is to bring any kind of game: dominos, tiles, cards or board games to play with other attendees. There will be food and raffle prizes. Alan provided a registration form.
Doug told us that we had raised $1500 towards Polio eradication.

The Family of Rotary is getting better! Past president Arilla St. Laurent attended today, and past president Jim Hyldahl expects to attend next week.

Mira Bozanich introduced our speaker Debra Dupree who spoke about “Creating the Emotionally Intelligent Workplace”.
