Minutes from our 5/26/2002 meeting

Athenea opened the meeting at 12:30 where we all said the 4-Way Test in unison.  Mike Stelman introduced the pledge and added an Inspirational Moment of Silence.  Mark Alberts was the Greeter.

Our Vines and Vittles festival is coming along great.  Mike Fuqua asked the club to look for sponsorships at the $2,000 level.  We can start selling tickets now and each committee can start asking for help with sponsors.  Let's make this event better then before.
There were 3 tickets turned back in for the Padres game and hopefully someone came forward!
It is time to start thinking about volunteering for Spirit of The Fourth.  We need people to work the parade and also work at the fireworks.
Doug Dawson was given some very nice compliments and we heard about things he did behind the scenes.  They will be moving out of state but we'll still see him at Rotary a couple of times next month.  He was given a token of appreciation to remember us all!

Arilla had a doctors appt. this afternoon and they are going to keep a close watch on her to make sure she is still making progress.

Pete Griffith had back surgery but is having a difficult time bouncing back.  He decided he might as well get out for awhile and at least get his hair cut.  While he was parking, another car hit his.  Not a good thing.  We wish him a speedy recovery.
Terri Hunter gave $100 in Happy Bucks to announce that the poles will be open this Sat., Sunday and Monday (and perhaps Tues. )  at Turtleback Elementary School.  Early voting avoids the crowds!
Bob Vaughn represents The Rotary Foundation and was able to award David King his 4th Paul Harris stone.  Please consider donating $100 by the end of this Rotary year and we might just get a 100% turnout!
Mike Fuqua was our guest speaker, filling in for today's speaker who came down with Covid!  Mikes' subject was Memorial Day, A Stark and Painful Memory.  The Americans were there to give support and defend Allegiance to  our Constitution. They paid tribute to those buried in the North African Cemetery where there were 2841 headstones.   Mikes son and son in law went off to war.  They came back alive and well thank goodness.   Sgt. 1st Class Cash was quoted as saying...."Let us strive to remember and honor our fallen soldiers."
Our new board has been chosen and they are as follows:  Athenea (of course) Past President;    Jim Reed, President Elect Nominee; Pat Chaffee, Treasurer;  Bill Brehm, Sgt. at Arms;  Kathy Glover, Vice President;  Jan Goldsmith, Secretary "General" of the Club; Katie and Bob are Co-Membership Chairs and Sandie Dewane is a Member!
Next week we will welcome Dan McAlister, San Diego Tax Collector as our speaker.  He's always interesting!!

Yours in Rotary,
Karen Stelman, Scribe
