Sandie Dewane, Scribe

The meeting was called to order by President Jim Reid and we recited the 4 Way Test and Pledge of Allegiance with him.  He thanked today’s volunteers:  Greeter – Jim Hyldahl; Scribe-Sandie Dewane; A/V – Dave Brooks; Front Desk-Pat Chaffee, Bob Vaughn; Sgt. At Arms – Bob Vaughn and crew; Photographer:  Bill Brehm; Book Presentation-Barb Alberts.

Greeter Jim Hyldahl introduced today’s guests and President Jim led us in singing the Welcome Song.

Announcements: The Club Board will meet after this meeting.  Jim Reid thanked Emily Paup, John Leatherwood and Lucia Capital Group for hosting the Vines & Vittles mixer.   Alan Turner gave an update on Vines & Vittles.  Mike Fuqua thanked everyone who signed up for Operation: Flags for Vets.  Information will be emailed in the next few days.  Judy Lutticken reported that the Abraxas High School open house and salsa sale was a success.  The Governor’s Award Dinner is on June 24th at the Del Mar Hilton – tickets available online.

Russ Haskell, who joined Rotary in 2010, repeated his “Who Am I.”  Raised in a rural community in the Denver area, he has a diversified educational background, in which he earned degrees in Electrical Engineering and Law, which influenced his career choices.  He also attended the seminary at Nortre Dame for 3 years.  Russ and his wife, Sue, divide their time between Denver and Rancho Bernardo.  We are fortunate that they spend January – May in RB and we look forward to seeing them each year at Rotary meetings and functions during that time.

Family of Rotary:  Sandie Dewane reported that Christine Testa has been in the hospital for two weeks due to chronic migraine pain and imbalance issues.  She will be discharged tomorrow and hopes to be back soon.

Bob Vaughn was successful in gathering happy bucks from several members.

Mike Fuqua introduced Christian Schuh, a former 2017-2020 Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica.  Christian shared his experiences while living there.  He taught English and stayed with the same host family the entire time.  Unfortunately, he was forced to return home due to the COVID pandemic. Today he is a Peace Corp Representative focusing on recruitment of volunteers in the San Diego area.   Barb Alberts presented a book to Christian for his signature.  The book will be donated to the Bernardo Heights Middle School Library in his name.

Next meeting is on Thursday, May 23.  County Supervisor Joel Anderson is guest speaker.

President Jim adjourned the meeting by ringing the bell.

Respectfully submitted,
