Scholarship Awards Program

Terry Heck welcomed 11 students who had been selected from 35 nominees to receive a total of for $21,000 in scholarships.  The students were nominated by the staffs of Del Norte High School, Rancho Bernardo High School, and Mt. Carmel High School.  The criteria for nomination included strong character, a love of learning, a compassion for others, and an eagerness to do good in their school and the community.  Rotary committee members were Terry Heck, Maguy Feghali, Gary Saks, and Ken Heinz.  This year the Foundation added to its grants a $1,000 grant from the Arila St. Laurent Scholarship Fund.

Terry reminded the audience that our club has awarded more than $100,000 in grants to the community over the past year and that over the last decade the club has awarded more than $1 million in grants to community and global projects.

Students receiving the awards were Connor Feng, Daisy Zhang, Kyana Aquino, Yousef Bahia, Samuel Fivaz, Annika Steinberg, Kayla Bell, Aaron Bi, Jasmine Tran, Jaclyn Hastings, and Payam Shams.

The students spoke about their career aspirations and where they hoped to attend college.  They were then asked questions by the audience.

In closing, Terry asked the students to believe that there is good in the world and to strive to do good in the world.

Next Meeting is March 14
