Rotary Club of Rancho Bernardo
June 2, 2022 Meeting
Scribe notes by Sandie Dewane

The evening meeting was called to order by Co-President Athenea Luciano and we joined her in reciting the 4 Way Test. Doug Dawson led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Jim Hyldahl gave the Inspirational Message. Greeter Mary Doss introduced 8 guests and Joel Doss welcomed them in song.
Thanks to the following volunteers: Pat Chaffey, Joel Doss, Lee Proimos, Front Desk; Bill Brehm, Room setup; James Kaspar, Photographer; Bill Angus, Newsletter Editor; Sandie Dewane, Scribe.

Mike Fuqua reported that all the Vines & Vittles committees are working hard and encouraged everyone to get involved in some way. He reminded us that the event is only 73 days away and to saddle up – we’re getting ready to ride! Hee-haw😊.

Co-President Athenea read a Family of Rotary message from Arilla St. Laurent. “If you are ill, get well soon. If you are well, stay that way. If you are alive, stay that way. Love you all and miss you.” Athenea provided a June birthday cake for everyone to enjoy and we did!
In the absence of John O’Neill and Arilla, Athenea filled in as Fine Mistress and did a great job raising funds for the club through fines and lots of Happy Bucks.

Bob Vaughn showed a brief video about The Rotary Foundation and how our donations make a difference worldwide.

Lee Proimos traded in his Red Badge after giving his “Who Am I”. Lee was born in San Francisco. His dad was a 31-year navy veteran and was a Lt. in WW2. Lee lost his mom when he was only 8 years old. Lee graduated from Berkeley and moved to Los Angeles where he worked in the Entertainment Insurance Industry for 12 years. He and his wife eventually moved to Palm Springs and then San Diego where his wife received medical care. They were married for 45 years before she passed away. Lee is very passionate about giving back and serves on many charity boards.

Charley Crew introduced our guest speaker, Dan McAllister. Dan is the Tax Collector for San Diego. He gave a humorous and informative talk about his department and the common sense approach they have taken to make it easier (and maybe less painful) for citizens to contact them with any questions and pay taxes. Jim Hyldahl presented a book for Dan’s signature which will be donated to the Bernardo Heights Middle School library.

Next meeting is on June 9th. Doors open at 11:15 and lunch will be served at 12 Noon.
