Meeting Minutes
July 25, 2019

Co-presidents Susan and David King brought the meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lou Anna Dickerson.  Immediate past president Mike Fuqua inspired us with his remembrances of the Apollo 11 Moon landing 50 years ago. For example:  Neil Armstrong brought parts of the Wright Flyer with him; US Customs required that the Moon rocks they brought back be declared and 500 million people watched the event.
Our greeter was Don Glover who introduced our guests including two visiting Rotarians:  Mary Stanton of RB Sunrise and D5340 Youth Protection Officer Doug Clements.  Don also acerbically introduced our own Bill Angus as a visiting Rotarian too.  Good to see you, Bill.  Joel Doss was joined by Larry Valente and Jim Hyldahl to lead us with baton in hand in an inspiring rendition of our melodious Welcome Song.

Susan thanked our volunteers:  room setup by John Kasser; check-in by Joel Doss and Vern Cook; AV setup by Alan Turner; meeting pictures by James Kaspar; Bill Angus for doing the newsletter; meeting organization by John O’Neill and these words by your humble scribe, Dave Brooks.

Jim Hyldahl announced a TGIX potluck dinner at his house on August 17th:
Address: 17768 Old Winery Court, Poway CA.
Time: 5:30 pm- 8:00 pm
Dress:  Very casual.
Menu: Smoked pork shoulders for pulled pork sandwiches as well as BBQ chicken wings, accompanied by coleslaw.
Alcohol: BYOB.  Iced tea and water will be provided.

Diane Remick announced A Day at the Races at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club on Wednesday, August 21st.  Start time is noon with first post at 2:00 pm.  Cost is $20 due now to Diane or RZ Norris.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Don Glover said we have 60 going to the Padres game this Sunday, July 28th.  We will have a tailgate party before starting at 10 am; carpooling from Caldwell Banker.

Dan Malloy brought us a banner from an exchange he did at the Rotary Club in Boadilla del Monte, Spain

Foundation chair Dan Barrios recognized Alex Robertson as achieving another Paul Harris level.

We celebrated July birthdays, of which there were many.   A tasty sheet cake was divided and delivered to the tables by the celebrants.

Cathy Glover told us that Scott Lawn is feeling better and is back to work.  Maureen Rouleau is also doing better but still requesting no calls.

The Kings inducted Athenea and Felix Luciano.  Their respective classifications are Immigration Services and Law Enforcement.

Pat Chaffee introduced our speaker Jesse Case, who told us all about Rotaract.

The Kings ended the meeting by naming Past President Doug Dawson the Rotarian of the Month.  And in a Joe Max moment, John O’Neill told us a joke about castration.  Joe would have loved it!
