President Jim Reid called the meeting to order by welcoming everyone.  We joined him in reciting the 4-Way Test. Dan Barrios led us in the Pledge of Allegiance; Greeter Charley Crew introduced one visiting Rotarian and three guests, who were serenaded with our Welcome Song, led by Joel Doss.  On short notice, Mike Ortiz stepped in to give the Inspirational message.

President Jim thanked today’s volunteers: Pat Chaffee, Joel Doss – front desk; Charley Crew-Greeter; Dan Barrios-Pledge, Mike Ortiz-Inspirational Message; Sandie Dewane – Scribe; and Katie Hunter (photographer) and Joel Doss (set-up) who were filling in for Bill Brehm.

Announcements:  July 25 – Padres game.  Check with Don Glover for tickets.  August 25 – Day at the Races.  There are a few seats available.  Contact Diane Remick if interested.

President Jim proposed a weekly “Camel Hair’s Challenge” which resulted from Jim wearing his father’s camel hair jacket to his first club meeting as President.  John Mullin volunteered to donate $10 each time President Jim wears the camel hair jacket to our weekly meetings. John donated $10 as did others.  All Rotarians are invited to join the challenge!

Bob Vaughn, on behalf of The Rotary (International) Foundation had the pleasure of presenting  Paul Harris Award #3 to Pat Chaffee.   Arilla St. Laurent reported on the Family of Rotary:  Steve LaPointe is recovering from surgery; Don Glover having eye surgery (Cathy’s next).

Fine Mistress Arilla recognized Dave Brooks for heading up the Spirit of the 4th event again and congratulated him on a job well done.  She then received Happy Bucks from several people, including Dave.  President Jim presented Board member badges to Emily Paup and Sandie Dewane.

Michael Ortiz introduced Dan DeSaegher, Chief Development Officer at TERI Inc., a non-profit organization that was founded 43 years ago by Cheryl Kilmer.  Its mission is to change the way the world sees, helps and empowers individuals with special needs.  TERI has a 20-acre campus in San Marcos that provides numerous programs such as Culinary, Fitness, Agricultural, Therapeutic Equestrian, Vocational Internship, Adult Learning, Performing and Fine Arts, in addition to Family Support, Speech & Language, Transportation, Clinical and Residential home services.  Great presentation!

President Jim adjourned the meeting by ringing the bell.

Respectfully submitted,
