Happy Bucks resulted in some contributions for the coffers especially with regards to Jim’s camel hair jacket.

Jim Hyldahl introduced our speaker today, Clay Hoffman of the Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital in Uganda which came about 7-8 years ago  after a member of San Rafael Church in Rancho Bernardo learned of the need for a hospital in Uganda only for children who were underserved with no hospital to meet their needs.  Children dying in high numbers at the time from young to old.  He took it upon himself to spearhead a plan to make the hospital a reality which it is today.

Nurse and 6 nursing students from UCSD went to Uganda to see if hospital could built.  Talked to people and learned children dying too early.  When they returned San Rafael Church organized a Board of Directors to begin the project.  Important to note Rotary played a very big part in providing grants, funds, support, etc. to make the project a success.  Took 4 to 5 years to build hospital.  Over 400,000 children already treated.  Without Rotary there wouldn’t be a hospital.  Opened 7-04-07.  Another example of Rotary and how they reach out and help worldwide.
