Meeting Minutes
January 10, 2019
President Doug brought our evening meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Scott Lawn.  Jim Hyldahl inspired us with a story about love and a memorable scene with Meg Ryan in “When Harry Met Sally”.
Our greeter was new member Terry Heck and he introduced many guests and spouses; we had great attendance!  Joel Doss did his usual fabulous job of leading us in a well-paced, upbeat rendition of our Welcome Song.
Doug thanked our volunteers:  room setup by Jim Reid; check-in by Joel Doss, Susan King and Jim Sommer; meeting pictures by James Kaspar; Bill Angus for doing the newsletter and these words by your humble scribe, Dave Brooks.
Doug announced that Toby and Ann Westbrook will host a TGIX on June 15th.  Doug asked for someone to step up and host another event in March or April.  He also called our attention to thank you notes on each table that we received from 3rd graders for the dictionaries we gave them.
Community Service chair Vern Cook said he would have a meeting to discuss new projects soon.
RI Foundation chair Dan Barrios presented Toby with a PHF+1 pin.
Club foundation president Don Glover talked about the Bridge Campaign fundraiser.  This is to generate the money the foundation needs until we hold Vines & Vittles in July.  The Bridge Campaign will start at the January 17th meeting and run for 3 weeks.  We are hoping to average a $200 donation per member and generate $14K.  Both credit cards and check will be accepted; the latter is preferred to avoid credit card fees.  Don then asked past presidents Shirley Napierala and Bentia Page to join him at the podium with representatives from Tech Trek.  This is a program sponsored by the American Association of University Women that encourages girls to go into technical professions.  Don presented a $1500 check to Tech Trek which will allow 5 girls to attend a week-long camp this summer at UCSD.
Doug presented past president Jim Hyldahl with a Service Above Self coin for his efforts in organizing the 7 Oaks Home Cleanup Drive.
Sandie Dewane introduced our speaker Nancy Canfield who spoke about the RB Historical Society.
