Today’s meeting was unique. Due to a scheduling mix-up, our usual room was not available, so we met outside in the patio. No food was available, and only a meager AV setup was provided by BHCC.

President David King brought the meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Maguy Fegali. Since a real flag was not available, quick thinking President-elect Alex Robertson got an image of the flag on his phone. He held it high and we laughed and saluted that. Mike Fuqua inspired us with the concluding remarks from the State of the Union address.

Our greeter was Greg Bohart who introduced our visiting Rotarians and guests. Joel Doss lead us with baton in hand in a raucous, somewhat off-key performance of our beloved Welcome Song.

President Dave thanked our volunteers: room setup by many folks; check-in by Joel Doss, Cathy Glover and John Mullin; meeting pictures by James Kaspar; Bill Angus for doing the newsletter; meeting organization by John O’Neill and these words by your humble scribe, Dave Brooks.

Alex announced that he would be heading to Presidents Elect Training Session (PETS) in LA this weekend. Diane Remick thanked all those who brought in durable bags for recipients to carry donated food. Foundation president Don Glover gave out 2 checks. $1500 to Roy Cornett and Danny Sherlock of Boys & Girls Clubs. Roy is the manager of the 4S Branch, and the money will be used for programs there. $3000 to Judy Blackford of Gently Hugged which provides new and used infant clothing to needy babies in the San Diego area. Alexandra Hart of the Escondido main club invited us to a Cupid’s Bash, a fund raiser to support opera education for children. It will be February 8th at the Vintana Restaurant.

Mira Bozanich introduced our speaker Veronica Musa who is a visiting scholar at the Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego. Her talk was titled “Peace We Do” and reflected on questions Rotarians had asked her.
