The meeting of Feb. 24, 2022

As always, we started the meeting off with the 4-Way Test followed by Mike Stelman leading us in the pledge. Doug Dawson gave the Inspirational Speech, Tom Murphy was our greeter and Karen Stelman (yours truly) is the scribe. Joel Doss led us in the Welcome Song and did a great job as always!

We can now register for our weekly lunch, no later than Monday noon, so BHCC can have a head count and know how much food to order for lunch on Thurs. Next week will be our evening meeting so don't forget! Mike Fuqua announced that Vines and Vittles will have a meeting on March 8th and asked for all of us to donate a raffle prize to be drawn on the day of the event. Jim Hyldahl was instrumental in getting the Westwood Club to welcome us there on Sat., April 30th for a Clean Up Day! More to come...

Arilla announced that Benita Page was in the hospital but was recently released and convalescing at home now. I'm sure she'd like a call or card to know we're thinking about her. Jim Reed announced that there will be a performance at the Poway Performing Arts Center on March 20th and encourages everyone to attend this special event. Check for times at the box office so you can buy your tickets and be sure to tell them you are with the Rotary Club of Rancho Bernardo to get our reserved tickets!
Dave Brooks announced that $6,870 has been raised to be able to build a clean water system in Ecuador.
He plans to go there and take part in the ceremony to honor Ed Knight for his invaluable work there. A plaque will be made to honor his work. He invited anyone in the club to join him to witness this gift from our club!
Mike Fuqua and Jim Hyldahl were fined $20 each for being selected for the RB Hall of Fame, but when Mike groaned, Jim took the opportunity to ask for a reduction to his fine (to $10) since he didn't make a fuss. John O said ok and Jim was a happy camper! Mike wasn't!

There was also a nice check presented to Interfaith for $4,000! They do so many good things for our community and are very much appreciated by our club.

Then it was up to Gary Saks to introduce our guest speaker, Drew Moser, who founded The Lucky Duck Foundation in 2017. It had it's initial start in 2005 but became very organized and attracted lots of new members They have basketball tournaments and rightfully boast about their average score of 132.4 per game!

THEIR GOAL IS TO END HOMELESSNESS!
#1. They take immediate action when the need is acknowledged. They have Homeless Shelters, Food Deliveries, and went from 400 meals to 1,000 daily in 18 months. They bought 5,000 Sleeping Bag Coats and distributed them over the last 2 years!
#2. Elbow Grease and Resolutions:
They collected over 500,000 pounds of food to feed San Diego's homeless population. They collected $100,000 to fund this mission. This program was called "Lucky Ducklings"!
#3. Their motto is Leadership and Commitment. Their generosity is limitless. What a great organization!

Again, our meeting next week is our evening meeting. Matthew Brown is our speaker. He is Associate Director, Law Enforcement Initiatives & Community Security - Anti-Defamation League at the San Diego Regional Office. I'm sure this will be very informative!
Have a great week!
Karen Stelman, Scribe
