Remaining 2019 Volunteer Opportunities at Ronald McDonald House, the dates are:
 
November 5th
 
We usually have about 10 members help serve dinner from 6:00 to 7:30.  The majority of our group needs to arrive at 4:00PM to prepare food and also stay after dinner to clean up until 8:00 PM. Please let Past President and volunteer coordinator Gary Saks know if you are interested in volunteering.
 
 
 
 
 
RB Rotary Meeting Minutes August 29, 2019
Presidents David and Susan King opened the meeting of the RB Rotary Club by reciting the  Four Way Test which originated in 1964.  Dan Barrios led us in our pledge to the flag and Greg Bohart gave the Inspirational Message.  Our Greeter, Bob Chambers, introduced visiting Rotarians and guests followed by the Welcome Song led by Joel and his baton!  Volunteers for the meeting were Joel Doss, Jim Sommer and Bill Brehm at the front desk, John Kasser, Set Up, James Kaspar, Photographer and John O'Neill, meeting organizer.  Karen Stelman was our scribe.
Pres. Dave announced a Rotary District Golf League has been proposed with the following dates: Dec. 4th, Jan. 15, Feb. 12, March 18th and April 17th.  More details to follow. 
Our District Governor will visit us on Sept. 19th and part of her message will be "End Polio Now".  30+ members signed up to buy a shirt and wear it under another outer cover so we can all "expose" our shirts on cue. There still may be time to order your shirt so give Dave or Susan King a call.
Shirley was given a Service Above Self coin for outstanding service to our club.  She has been responsible for our birthday cakes, delivering flowers for our auction every month and handles orders for Rotary shirts as events come up.  Great job Shirley!
There is an RB Safety Fair on Sept. 21st and Dave and Lynn will be asking for volunteers.  There is some 
great material being handed out at several booths, especially information on fires and how to prepare for an evacuation if it becomes necessary.
 
Phil Warner is our ROTARIAN OF THE MONTH for all he does to further the Rotary causes in our club.
 
Rotary night at the Padres against the Cubs Sept. 10th
 
Grandparents Day at Poway Lake hosted by RB Sunrise.  Games, hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided and the rest is up to you!  The date is Sept. 8th at noonishl  Let's hope it cools
There is also a Rotary Leadership Institute on Sept. 21st at the Hilton - Del Mar for anyone wishing to find out more about Rotary.  Red Badgers ($20) and all are encouraged to attend.  Gold Badgers will pay $30.

Dan Barrios spoke on the Rotary International Foundation and welcomed Dick Norfolk into the prestigious group of Paul Harris members.  Welcome aboard!  If you have extra Paul Harris points and would like to help a member become a Paul Harris Fellow, see Dan!
 
RZ announced that she still has tickets to "Winter Dance Party" at the Poway Center for the Arts on Saturday, February 29 at 8:00 p.m.  They are $45 and there is a limited number of tickets left.  First come, first served for this fun event.  The entertainment features the 50's hits from the Buddy Holly Story, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens.  Don't miss this great opportunity.
Charlie Crew announced that it's time to get your requests in for Matching Grants from the Foundation.  It's a great way to double your gift to your favorite charity.  
John Mullin gave his "Who Am I" and was promptly awarded his gold badge.  Nice job John!  And a big welcome back to Dave Brooks who had a wonderful 5 week trip across Canada and the upper States.  We're glad to have you back Dave! 
Pat Chafee introduced our guest speaker, Thomas Lettington, who spoke on The Climate Reality Project - Climate Change.  He handed out several charts and information on what has been happening to our atmosphere and a sheet of 48 action steps we can take to help mitigate this problem.  Let's all do our part to help sustain our lifestyle and not add to the problem.
 
Next week's speaker is Brain Zumbano -VP - The San Diego Foundation.  Improving the Quality of Life in our Communities.
Doug Dawson ended our meeting with a "Joe Max" joke but alas, no one can really fill Joe's shoes.  He was one of a kind.  But then again, so is Doug!!
