8/11/22 Rotary meeting minutes

President Alan is on holiday in Scotland, so the capable Cathy Glover covered for him. As is our custom we began with the recitation of the 4-Way Test. Cathy then thanked our meeting volunteers: Greeter Barb Alberts, Jim Sommer who led us in a rousing version of The Grand Old Flag and Katie Hunter who presented the Inspirational Message with quotes from notable people. Also thanked were Bob Vaughn for the meeting setup, photographer Katie Hunter, Front Desk check-in by Pat Chaffee & Joel Doss plus John O’Neill as Scribe.

Finemaster John O’Neill, after enduring a relentless barrage of boos, rose to the occasion by fining Bill Brehm. While this is not unusual in itself, it did showcase a remarkable run of continuity for John.

Pete Griffith was called up to give his Who Am I. He was born in New Jersey, eventually moving local poverty pockets Danville and Menlo Park in Northern California. Later He moved to Reno where he worked to insure whorehouses among other things. A very interesting talk indeed.

Next up was Gary Saks to introduce our speaker, Steve Breen, chief political cartoonist for the San Diego Union Tribune, He syndicates his work throughout the U.S. and has been awarded two Pulitzer Prizes. He described how he goes about creating his work. Blessed with a razor sharp wit and a comfortable style he gave us an excellent presentation.

Before adjourning the meeting Cathy shared two Quotes:
Regarding senior moments, Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind it doesn’t matter. Mark Twain
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. Winston Churchill
Thanks to all of you who will be giving at Vines & Vittles this weekend
Meeting adjourned
John O’Neill, Scribe
