Club Meeting - April 20th - notes by Alan Turner

Our meeting got off to a great start with an inspirational talk by new member John Leatherwood, who described how the flag ceremony was drilled into him by his grandfather. This was his first introduction to service to others, and now has come full circle with Rotary and "Service Above Self"

John and Emily were then thanked by President Alan for the great Vines & Vittles VIP Mixer that Lucia Capital Group hosted for us.

We have a busy period coming up.
This weekend it is "all hands to the pumps" on another Community Clean Up. This weekend we return to Oaks North, and we will have help from Mt Charmel HS Interactors.

Then on April 25th we join our sister club, RB Rotary Sunrise to hear from Olga Illinska on her escape from Ukraine.
April 29th we have two activities; we have 10+ club members already registered to participate in the NAMIwalk downtown. Our District 5340 walking team has over 50 walkers and we have already raised over $8,000 for NAMI.
And, on the same day, we have many members helping out, and participating to celebrate our nominee, Sandie Dewane for the RB Hats Off To Volunteers.

Vines & Vittles is only a month away, and preparations are going well. We are now asking to sign up volunteers for the many tasks in setting up, and during the event. The Sponsorship Team reports that they have exceeded their target, and the sponsor amount now totals over $69,000. Well done to all for their contributions and work to get sponsors.

We had a very interesting presentation from Maren Kavanagh on the work by "I Love a Clean San Diego". We learned about the challenges of disposing of waste. We also heard about the targets by the City of San Diego to better organize waste so that more can be recycled.

Next week we have a presentation by Past District Governor, Steve Weitzen on how the Rotary District 5340 is working to help those who are victims of "Human Trafficking".
