***On November 16th, 9:00 - 10:30 am, at Abraxas High School Garden, we are donating 14 fruit trees to them. (First trees in President Mike's goal to plant a tree for each member).
This Tree Project Day is gaining momentum-primarily from the excitement from Abraxas.

We need your help in getting a good Rotary turnout:

  • Bring invited guests including future Rotarians.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and Rotary shirt
  • Tours of vegetable garden and aquaponic garden
  • Mingle with students and teachers
  • Watch students plant the trees, each tagged with name of tree and donated by RB Rotary
  • Refreshments
  • Regular Rotary meeting at BHCC to follow.***

Meeting Minutes
November 9, 2017
President Mike brought the meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jim Reid, who showed us the words John Phillip Sousa had written for “The Stars and Stripes Forever”, then we sang the song.  Past President Jim Sommer inspired us with a quote from Hunter S. Thompson telling us how to live our lives with abandon.
Our greeter was past President Ed Knight (assisted by Glenda) and he introduced several guests including Ann Westbrook, Joanne Hyldahl and Alberta Max.  Our welcome song was dynamically lead by a distinguished quartet:  Jim Sommer, Jim Hyldahl, Gary Saks and Joel Doss.

Mike thanked our volunteers:  room setup by Sgt. at Arms Judy Lutticken and past President Paul Donick; check-in by Joel Doss, Ron Hunt and Alex Lawn; photography by James Kaspar; past President Bill Angus for doing the newsletter and these words by your humble scribe, past President Dave Brooks.
Mike had so many announcements that he created a slide with bullets repeated here:

We heard a presentation from 2 Girl Scouts, Maddie Engblom and Ella Godun.  They spoke about their Silver Award Project to collect funds for GiGi’s Playhouse.  This organization helps children with Down Syndrome and wants to build a facility in San Diego.  President Mike gave them a check for $350 from our club and we passed the hat and donated $150 more.
Foundation chair Dan Barrios acknowledged our newest Paul Harris Fellow:  Cathy Glover.
Our Fabulous Finemaster John O’Neill fined your scribe $20 (ow!) for having his picture in the paper.  Happy bucks were given by past President Jim Hyldahl who caught a 500 lb. marlin and Alex Lawn who will turn 25 this weekend.
Past president Benita Page introduced our speaker John Baker who spoke about Voices for Children, which trains court appointed special advocates for foster children in San Diego County.
President Mike closed the meeting with a quote from Eddie Rickenbacker: “Aviation is proof that, given the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.”
