The meeting was called to order by President Benita Page.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Arilla St. Laurent. The Inspirational Message was given by Joe Gandelman.

Our Greeter today was Charley Crew who introduced our guests and a visiting Rotarian. Charley also led the Welcome song.
President Benita noted that there is an alternative entrance to our meeting room at SRCC in the rear of the building.  She thanked the volunteers for today: Joel Doss and Troy Daum at the Front Desk, the Set Up Crew, Judy Lutticken, Doug Dawson and Paul Donick, Photographer James Kaspar and Scribe Rz Norris.

President Benita announced that cards for Pat Kenney and Marguy Feghali were at the sign in desk for members to send greetings to them.

Larry Saunders announced that he had 200 Christmas cards yet to be signed at the meeting today and asked that those who had the time please stay and finishing signing them. (About a dozen members did stay after the meeting and the cards were all signed).  Larry also announced that he, along with President Benita and Vern Cook visited the site for the Interfaith Meal Project on November 12th. A menu has been selected, and members will be asked to volunteer to shop, cook and serve on that day.

Dave Brooks again invited members to the annual Thanksgiving Luncheon for Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation.
James Kaspar announced the Rotary Foundation drive kick-off. He cited this years motto, “Service above self”, and confirmed that the Foundation advanced would understanding and peace.  Past District Governor Janice Kurth will be our guest on November 17th, to give us information on the Foundation.

The Poinsettia project, headed by Frances Blair, will benefit the Drive to End Polio at our Club level. It is hoped that this project will boost that fund toward the $2,680 club goal.

Gary Saks made two Club Foundation grant awards today: Michael Rennie and Nicole Keith accepted the grant of $1,000 for the Poway Center for the Arts, now called Poway On Stage.  This is the fourth grant they have received.  Julie Purdy and Andrew Miller accepted a grant of $ 2,000 for the Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation to help purchase equipment for the Escondido Hearing Center.

Mira Bozanich introduced our speaker for the day, County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, along with her aide Matthew Parr. Dianne spoke on the Alzheimer’s San Diego Project, and fairly new Foundation locally to San Diego which funds local Alzheimer research centers to find treatment and support Relief for Caregivers.  Two web sites with information on Alzheimer patient safety, in association with law enforcement and medical aid are “Take Me Home” and “Alert San Diego” for cell phone users.

President Benita told Supervisor Jacob that a book with her name would be donated to Bernardo Heights Middle school.

Next week Fary Moini will speak on Projects in Afghanistan.

After giving thoughts on “memories”, President Benita adjourned the meeting.
