Rotary Meeting Minutes 11/12/15

President Arilla opened the meeting by thanking volunteers Charley Crew as greeter, Cathy Glover for combining an excellent Opening Inspirational Thought with the Pledge as the theme, plus John O’Neill as scribe.  For the meeting set up she thanked Vern Cook and Judy Lutticken, plus Frances Blair and Joel Doss for manning the check-in desk. Also receiving special mention were our club photographer, James Kaspar, club secretary Jeanne Hawkins and newsletter publisher Bill Angus.

A moment was taken in remembrance of our fellow Rotarian, Bud Renas, who passed away this week.  Arilla spoke to Bud’s wife, Gloria, who said that all of the services would be private, with family only.

Dave Brooks informed club members and their spouses to join him at the annual Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation Thanksgiving Luncheon on Tuesday, November 24th.  This traditional event will be held at the RB Inn Aragon Ballroom.  There are six seats remaining, so contact Dave right away to reserve your spot(s).  President Arilla announced that the next TGIX party would be for preparation of our school dictionaries and thesauri, and will be held this coming Sunday at Arilla’s home.

Benita Page reminded everyone that this years’ holiday party will held on December 10th at Bernardo Heights CC.  If you have not let Benita know you plan to attend, please do so right away.

President Arilla happily inducted a new member, Doug Dawson.  Doug’s sponsor is Don Glover and his mentor is Jim Sommer.  Welcome to Rotary Doug!

Our sanguine former president Don Glover announced the final candidates for the upcoming Rotary officer elections.  Next year Benita Page will be president; Troy Daum will remain treasurer; Jeanne Hawkins will remain secretary and Vern Cook will serve as vice-president.  The president-elect for 2017-2018 is Mike Fuqua.  Congratulations to all of you for your dedication and commitment to Rotary!

Finemaster John O’Neill then managed to pry some fines and Happy Bucks from our generous members.

Speaker Chair Sonny Googins introduced our speaker, Nikki Woodward from the American Diabetes Association.  Nikki shared the vision that the ADA mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by it.  Her talk about how to prevent the onset of diabetes was informative and helpful.

President Arilla adjourned the meeting and announced that our speaker on November 19th is
