Rotary meeting minutes 4/16/15
Our indomitable president Don Glover called the meeting to order by thanking volunteers Dan Barrios for the pledge, Judy Luttiken as greeter, Dan Malloy for the Opening Inspirational Thought and John O’Neill as scribe. For the meeting set up he thanked Vern Cook, Bill Bonner and Paul Donick. Also thanked were Frances Blair, Sonny Googins and rookie Troy Daum for manning the check-in. The photo master, James Kaspar, was recognized for the fine quality of his photos. Our ancient welcome song was delivered with uncharacteristic tunelessness to the visitors and guests.Mira Bozanich reminded everyone that the Rotarians At Work Day is planned for April 25th. John O, golf Chairman of the annual Fairway To Honor golf tournament, reminded everyone that the big fundraiser is a little over a month
away. So far, we have an estimated 56 golfers signed up, which includes quite a few military sponsorships. John asked that all of our members invite any friends, family or even total strangers to join us on May 18th. Sonny reported that we have passed our American flag target of fifty sponsors and are still growing.
away. So far, we have an estimated 56 golfers signed up, which includes quite a few military sponsorships. John asked that all of our members invite any friends, family or even total strangers to join us on May 18th. Sonny reported that we have passed our American flag target of fifty sponsors and are still growing.President Don reported that the Padres game on April 14th was great fun and very well attended. Our club supplied the most fans of any Rotary Club, 30 in total. The next closest club had only 22, Congratulations! The Pres also praised our members for contributing $434 per capita to the Rotary Foundation and once again achieving EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year) club recognition.
Recent member Mike Fuqua, who was sponsored by President Don, gave his Who Am I, thereby fulfilling his new member responsibilities. Mike is a San Diego native from a Navy family. Since John O the scribe had a memory lapse, not much else was retained from Mike’s presentation. Regardless, welcome aboard gold badger Mike Fuqua!Finemaster John O fined the ever speeding Troy Daum for maintaining an average speed of 159mph at a local track in a Nascar race machine. Jim Hyldahl was fined for not calling the esteemed finemaster to nail down a date for a ride in his Ferrari. Sonny paid $10 to remind us that recent meeting notes indicating that she has 16 grandchildren were overstated by 10 kids, she has 6 wonderful grandchildren.
Our speaker was Senior Park Ranger Natalie Borchardt. She spoke about the nearby San Deguito River Park preserve, which runs for more than 70 miles from Del Mar to Volcan Mountain, just north of Julian. The goal of Natalie’s group is to provide a continuous and coordinated system of preserved lands with a connecting corridor of walking, equestrian, and bicycle trails, encompassing the San Dieguito River Valley from the ocean to the river’s source. Jim Hydahl presented Natalie with a recognition decree while spinning yet another tall tale linking a library book donation in her name.President Don adjourned the meeting announcing that the speaker next week will be Arthur Golden, who will be performing classical guitar
