Meeting Minutes
May 12, 2016
President Arilla brought the meeting to order and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Dan Malloy. President-elect Benita Page gave us an inspirational thought. Our greeter today was Lou Anna Dickerson and we had many RYLA guests. They were students Bijan Askari, Reagan Cloutier, Tierney Kim, Dylan Mai, Anjali Patil, Ashwath Raj, Daniel Shevchuk and Soumya Kuruvila. Also present were two counselors: Caroline Lee of RB High and and Kathy Marron of Del Norte High. Jim Sommer did a great job leading us in our fabulous welcome song.Arilla thanked our volunteers: room setup by Sgt. at Arms Vern Cook, Judy Lutticken and past-president Paul Donick; check-in by Joel Doss; photography by James Kaspar; past-president Bill Angus for doing the newsletter and these words by your humble scribe, past-president Dave Brooks.
Mira Bozanich gave the Family of Rotary report. Sonny Googins had knee surgery and is recovering well. The next TGIX will be at John Goodrich’s newly remodeled house on May 28th. We are doing food/beverage assignments via email.
Doug Dawson announced that he was selling tickets for the RB Choral concert on June 10 and 11. Proceeds go towards music scholarships.
Cathy Glover received recognition from Arilla for bringing in Russ Haskell.
Past president Karen Stelman announced that the club foundation fund raiser brought in almost $12,000. She then presided over the raffle drawing and our winners were: Russ Haskell, gift basket; RB Inn package, James Kaspar and the $500 gift card went to Charley Crew with Barb cheering too.Finemaster and past-president John O’Neill extracted a goodly amount from several happy donors.
Past president Troy Daum took the podium and described the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) event, which took place in April. He introduced Scott Roberson who went as facilitator with 8 students from Rancho Bernardo and Del Norte High Schools. Scott showed a 3 minute video of what went on at the event. We then heard from each of the students who told us what RYLA meant to them. They were inspiring and it is certain they will use these skills to good advantage.Del Norte HS counselor Kathy Marron told us that past RYLA graduates have gone on to attend many great colleges like Stanford, USC and UCSD.
President Arilla closed the meeting without an inspirational thought because our RYLA students had done such a great job inspiring us already.
