President Mike called the meeting to order and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Don Glover was a quick stand in to deliver the Inspirational Message. Scott Lawn introduced our many visiting Rotarians and guests and Mike thanked all our volunteers for the evening: Joel, John Goodrich and Susan King at the front desk, Judy Lutticken for set up and James Kaspar as our unfailing photographer.

Thank yous were received from the Poway Career Technical Education Dept., RBHS and the Historical Society. The HS received 19 inquiries resulting from letters we put in the Dictionary deliveries regarding the Kumeyaay Indians. It seems the third graders study these Indians and the Historical Society provides speakers to the schools with lots of history in addition to what the PUSD already offers.

Arilla St. Laurent is having an art exhibition of her paintings at Stone & Glass at 629 W. Grand Ave., Escondido. Her paintings will be on display until April 7th along with blown glass and beautiful gift items sold by the owner of Stone and Glass. Be sure to stop by and see her beautiful works of art!

* The Four Way Speech Sub-Regional Contest will be held at the RB Rotary Sunrise meeting on March 20 at 7 a.m. at The Country Club of Rancho Bernardo right next to the RB Inn. Please RSVP to Doug if you'd like to go.
* There will be a District Training Assembly on March 24th at the Joan Croc Peace Center at 9 a.m. There will be invaluable information about Rotary. Red Badgers are encouraged to attend and their $25 fee will be paid by our club. It's a great way to find out about "What Rotary Is"!
* Rotary Night at the Padres will be held on 4/29 at 1:10; 7/15 at 1:10 and 8/14 at 7:10. There is special pricing for tickets and it would be great fun to get a big group together and spend time with our Padres! More to follow,
* Frances announced that we will be having a food drive again in the near future for No. Co. Interfaith with more details to follow.
* Sadaf Rasekh (V.P. of RBHS Interact Club) and Alex Tcheckanov, Secretary gave us a presentation on the Fight Against Hunger where RBHS volunteers gather to package 40,000 meals to feed those in need. It benefits impoverished children and adults in the San Diego area, Tanzania and Haiti. They are asking our help in raising money to meet their goal of $10,000. Your tax deductible donation goes towards the product, packing and delivering of the 40,000 meals. The event is not until the end of summer so you'll be hearing more about this project as we get closer but we want to be sure and support our newly formed Interact Club and show them we care.

The best part of any Rotary Club is the induction of new members and we did just that when Arilla and Don Glover brought Diane Remick in to our club. Diane was a Senior Paralegal and is anxious to get started as our newest member. Welcome aboard Diane!

We had so many Happy Bucks this evening that we ran out of time but managed to bring in over $400! On a sad note, Larry Saunders announced he and April will be selling their home and moving out of state. We hate to see them go but I'm sure they will continue to keep up their volunteer work through Rotary or other worthy clubs. They will be missed.

Sonny Googins introduced our speaker who happens to be her very own son Glen, speaking on a family climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro! Son Glen Googins, City Attorney of Chula Vista, encouraged his father, Bob to train with grandson Kevin and granddaughter Kate with the goal of the three generations ascending Mt. Kilimanjaro, 19,361 elevation in Tanzania. They trained for six month in places like Big Bear, Poway's Mt. Woodson and San Jacinto then set off for the 8 day trek undertaken after a 3 day safari to prepare for the altitudes ahead. Glen, Kevin and Kate made it to the top. Bob hit 15,000 ft. but descended at that point due to a bad chest cold. Sonny stayed home and prayed. The pictures Glen showed made us all feel like we were right along with them!

Our next program is John LoPiccolo, Conductor and Music Director of the Poway Symphony.
