Meeting Minutes
March 23, 2017

President Benita brought the meeting to order and asked new member Sally Rovner to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Our inspirational thought came from another new member Traci Smart, who was impressed by the number of inspirational messages she found online that had its roots in Rotary.

Past president Jim Sommer welcomed long-time member Pat Kenney to the meeting.  Then he marched us through Georgia one more time leading us in our welcome song.

Benita thanked our volunteers:  room setup by Judy Lutticken and past President Paul Donick; check-in by Joel Doss and past President Troy Daum; photography by James Kaspar and these words by your humble scribe, past President Dave Brooks.

We had a bunch of announcements from President Benita.  The District Conference will be on Saturday, 5/20 and the club is subsidizing the cost of attendance by $25.  It is again a joint conference with D5320 and will be held at the Liberty Station Conference Center.  She gave James Kaspar a Rotary coin to acknowledge his wonderful photographs of club members and events.  She received a letter from Don Lisio regarding the club’s support during Suzie’s passing and provided copies for each table to read.

President-elect Mike Fuqua told us that our 4 Way Test Speech Contest contestant competed at RB Sunrise and took 3rd place.  He also reported that he attended the District Training Assembly last weekend and became an advocate of using Facebook to publicize club events and communicate with club members.  He recommends you get a Facebook account and follow RB Rotary.

Frances Blair announced that a food drive to benefit Interfaith Community Services will begin at the April 6th meeting, our first back at remodeled Bernardo Heights Country Club.  Last year we donated 3000 pounds of food so Frances raised the bar and our goal this year is 3500 pounds.

We had cake and sang Happy Birthday to……….no one!  Nobody present had a birthday in March.

Club Foundation President Gary Saks announced 3 candidates for this year’s board member nominees.  They are Shirley Napierala, Benita Page and Judy Lutticken.  There were 2 more nominations from the floor:  Toby Westbrook and Dick Norfolk.  We will vote on these nominees on April 6th.

New member Traci Smart gave her Who Am I.  Traci was born in Ohio and has been an active volunteer with many organizations including Girl Scouts, Junior Achievement and Boys & Girls Club.  She is the mother of 2 and her daughter was the recipient of a RB Rotary scholarship last year.  She has her teaching credential and has her own business.

Past President Bob Vaughn introduced our speaker Chelsea Buck who spoke about Interfaith Community Services.  At the end of her talk we presented her with a grant check for $2000.

President Benita closed the meeting with this quote:   “Nobody can do everything but everyone can do something.”
