President Mike Fuqua called the meeting to order, citing our 54 years of service, and reaffirming the Rotary Pledge. The Salute to the Flag was led by Phillip Warner, who reminded us of the many facets to American life that the flag represents.

Dave Brooks gave the Inspirational message, applying the recent recognition of his Rotary jacket by strangers who identified the Rotary Symbol on it. He said that shows how widely our world service can be recognized, and is an inspiration for Rotary to continue with its’ good works.

Our Greeter today was Dan Malloy. We had one visiting past Rotarian, our speaker, Denise McAndrews, as well as several new and returning guests to the Club. The Welcome Song was led by Dan and was rendered with good voices today!

President Mike thanked todays volunteers: Joel Doss, Gayla Williams and Arilla St Laurent at the front desk, Paul Donnick and Judy Lutticken for setting up, James Kaspar, our intrepid photographer, and Rz Norris, todays’ scribe.
President Mike presented the Rotary video “What is Rotary?”. He had tried to show this at a previous meeting. This time we have a new audio speaker so that the video had sound. The video was well received.

President Mike announced that there would be a Service meeting with Vern Cook after today's meeting. Shirley Napierala said the order for Club shirts would be going in next week.

Jim Hyldahl said that he, Dick Norfolk and Dan Malloy had replaced 10 (out of 30) Neighborhood Watch signs in the Oaks North community as part of our service to that community. Karen Stelman said she would take orders for See’s Candy for 2 more weeks. The candy will be in before Easter.

Jim Reed said that the interviews for RYLA participants at the local high schools has taken place, and noted that he would like to see additional Facilitators from our Club to help with the RYLA weekend camp in April.

Dan Barrios said that he had received the Annual Report from the Rotary Foundation. He read the cover letter to the report, listing some of the many projects and services that the Foundation money has gone for this past year. He also presented a Paul Harris Fellow Certificate to Rz Norris.

Arilla St Laurent said there was no Family of Rotary report today, then changed hats to be Fine Master for today.

Sonny Googins introduced our speakers for today; Denise McAndrews, Career Tech, from the Poway Unified School District, and Bruce May, a volunteer with the Poway School Summer STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Camp program. There was a slide presentation on this camp. The camp is held each summer to help introduce school children to STEM educational experiences.

The Project is working on funding underprivileged students through the YEP Scholarship Program, so that more students may be able to take the courses. Donation information will be sent to Club members via email by President Mike.

Jim Hyldahl presented the Speakers Book, “From Here to There: Transportation of Food and Goods”.
Next weeks’ evening meeting program will be the “Googins Family”, telling about their experiences in climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. We were encouraged to attend the meeting the following week as local Interact students will attend the meeting.

President Mike closed the meeting with life choices inspirational quotes from Theodore Roethke and Herbert A. Simon.
