Rotary meeting minutes 6/9/16

Before the meeting began, there was an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation from the many children in attendance.  The kids were here to experience our speaker, ventriloquist Joe Gandelman.

President Arilla opened the meeting by thanking volunteers Larry Saunders as Greeter and Troy Daum for an interesting Inspirational Thought.  President Arilla led our Pledge and Gary Saks led an excellent rendition of our welcome song.  For the meeting set up, Arilla thanked Judy Lutticken, Dave Brooks and Paul Donick, plus Joel Doss for manning the check-in desk. Also receiving special mention were our club photographer, James Kaspar, club secretary Jeanne Hawkins, John O’Neill as Scribe, sargeant-at-arms Vern Cook and newsletter publisher Bill Angus.

The Family of Rotary news concerned John Kasser, who broke his femur while at home.  He has undergone surgery and is healing nicely.  Suzie Lisio is still resting at home while the doctors try to come up with an effective treatment plan.  Also, Jim Edwards is improving, and is awaiting the arrival of new hearing aids.  Jim is eager to return soon.

Mike Fuqua congratulated the volunteers who manned the Rotary booth for the Toy & Stuffed Animals Project at the Del Mar Fairground last Saturday.  President-elect Benita Page encouraged everyone to bring in new underwear and socks to support the upcoming Stand Down Project at Veteran’s Village.  She also thanked the members who have already contributed to this valuable military support project.

President Arilla announced that, at the Governor’s Dinner Awards, Mike Fuqua received a Presidential Citation for the active and sizeable Del Norte HS Interact Club that he is actively involved in.  Only two Interact clubs received this award.  Also, three members of our club were graduates of the first Rotary Leadership Institute class.  They are Dave Brooks, Benita Page and President Arilla.

Finemaster John O’Neill found four members not wearing Rotary pins, and gathered many dollars from generous club members.  Bob Vaughn contributed $110 in celebration of 55 years of marriage to his lovely wife Helen, who was also in attendance.  Congratulation Bob & Helen!

Gary Saks introduced our speaker.  He is Joe Gandelman, a professional ventriloquist.  The many children in attendance all sat in a row right in front of Joe and actively participated in the lively and hilarious show featuring more than a dozen characters.

President Arilla adjourned the meeting and announced that our speaker next week is Kim Enderle who will be speaking of her experiences as a female army veteran.
