Rotary meeting minutes for 6/1/2017
President Benita Page opened the meeting by thanking volunteers Maguy Feghali as Greeter and Rick Bramble for a thoughtful Inspirational Thought centered on 10 rules from Thomas Jefferson. Mira Bozanich led our Pledge. For the meeting set up, Benita thanked the set-up crew of Dave Brooks, Doug Dawson and Judy Lutticken, plus Joel Doss and Kathleen Smith for manning the check-in desk. Also receiving special mention were our club photographer, James Kaspar, John O’Neill as Scribe and sergeant-at-arms Vern Cook.
Karen Stelman shared a Family of Rotary update concerning Brian Flaherty’s wife Bibi, who experienced a fall that ended up with an immediate hip replacement and is now facing heart surgery. Brian has also had to endure further treatments for his skin cancer. Frances Blair has been feeling poorly and is resting at home.
Mike Fuqua asked the members to come by the Rotary booth #117 at RB Alive. Charley Crew informed us that the RSVP folks will also be displaying our Rotary banner at RB Alive. Gary Saks reminded us that the meeting in two weeks would be Family Day, so bring your spouse, friends and children or grandchildren. Arilla St. Laurent gave a big thank you to the Crews and Dawsons for a truly outstanding Friendship Dinner that raised $1150 for the End Polio Now campaign. Also, please be sure to bring your new underwear purchases to the next few meetings. Larger sizes are needed.
Former RB Rotarian Marty Judge introduced our speaker, 52nd District Congressman Scott Peters. Scott informed us about the things he and his fellow legislators are working on. He jokingly referred to himself as a Democrat who other Democrats love to hate and whom Republicans hate to love.
President Benita adjourned the meeting and announced that our speaker next week is Frederic Fournier from the Consulate of Canada. She left us with the quote:
“Loyalty to country ALWAYS. Loyalty to government, when it deserves it.” – Mark Twain
