Club Meeting Minutes 7/6/17

President Mike opened his first meeting as Club President by having all members recite the 4 Way Test while standing for the flag salute, and reminding the members of our 54 years of Service Above Self.

The Pledge was led by John Goodrich, who reminded us of the history of our Declaration of Independence, followed by Jon Harris’ inspirational message of who the heroes are in our world.

Cathy Glover was the greeter today. Among visitors and visiting Rotarians was District Governor, Scott Carr, who is on an unofficial visit to our Club tonight. All were greeted with a rousing rendition of the Welcome song.

President Mike thanked the volunteers for today: Rz Norris, scribe, Kathleen Smith and Joel Doss, front desk, Judy Lutticken, Paul Donick and Doug Dawson, setup, and James Kaspar, photographer.

President Mike profusely thanked Dave Brooks for all his work in organizing the Spirit of the Fourth activities for Rancho Bernardo.  He went above and beyond in his efforts to make the event a success.

Vern Cook announced there will be a Community Service planning meeting July 19th at Casa meeting room, 4th floor. All members interested in the program may attend.

Dan Malloy spoke about our Club sponsored Music Camp problems this year, in that the San Diego Youth Symphony will not be able to host the program.  Tickets for the events are available for a $30.00 donation per ticket.  Details are in the email he sent last week.  Tickets can be picked up in the venue lobby the evening of the performance.

President Mike announced that Bob Barr will be the Peace Chair this year.

Arilla St. Laurent, our new Family of Rotary person, said that Brian Flahertys’ wife will have surgery.  Judy Lutticken's nephew was tragically killed in an accident.

The induction of 2 new members by President Mike and Charley Crew, took a new twist, as inductee David King joined the meeting and his wife, Susan, via Skype from Kuwait. Don Glover is David’s sponsor, Benita Page is sponsoring Susan.  The Club welcomed them warmly.

President Mike reintroduced and presented the Board members with new badges: Benita Page, past President, Troy Daum, Treasurer, Doug Dawson, President elect, Jeanne Hawkins, Secretary, and Karen Stelman, Vice President.

Joe Max gave us his monthly joke, and Fine Master John O’Neill was in rare form with fines and generous “Happy Bucks”.

Don Glover introduced District Governor, Scott Carr, who spoke briefly about his visions for Rotary in our District this year, stressing increased humanitarian activity and to enhance Rotary’s public image.
