Meeting Minutes
February 25, 2016
President Arilla brought the meeting to order and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve LaPointe on short notice. New member Ann Sullivan inspired us by telling about a 100 year old senior she knew in Memphis, TN who got a lot done for someone her age. Our greeter today was past president Don Glover and we had no guests except our speaker. Secretary Supreme Jeanne Hawkins attempted to lead us on the piano in the Welcome Song and proved that we are strictly an acapella group. Past president Jim Sommer also led us in singing “America”.President Arilla thanked our volunteers: past president Troy Daum and Joel Doss at check-in, room setup by Vern Cook, Judy Litticken and past-president Paul Donick, piano music John Hawkins, photography by James Kaspar, past-president Bill Angus for doing the newsletter and these words by your humble scribe, past-president Dave Brooks.
Past-president Mira Bozanich provided the Family of Rotary report. She said all are well.President Arilla reminded us that Rotary International celebrated its 111th birthday on February 23rd. Locally we sang “Happy Birthday” to two members born this month: past president Kathleen Smith and Frances Blair.
The next TGIX will be at Dave’s new house on Leap Year Day February 29th. Joel Doss announced that the March TGIX will be held on the 26th at his house.
Past president Don asked the “Old Geezers” to convene after the club meeting to start planning the Demotion Party for President Arilla.
President-elect Benita Page gave us a summary of her experience at PETS last weekend. She also showed us a new sign given to her by District 5340 that answers the question: “What is Rotary?” This sign will be displayed at the check in.Finemaster and past-president John O’Neill began benevolently by recognizing the members who create the meeting minutes each week. These scribes are Karen Stelman, Jeanne Hawkins, Sandie Dewane, John himself and me. During Happy Bucks Troy talked about RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) which will take place in April. Our facilitators will be RZ Norris and Scott Robertson, and we will be sending 8 students. Steve LaPointe announced he was cancer-free.
Past president Charley Crew introduced our speaker Cara Wilson-Granat. She talked about the story of Anne Frank, made vibrant through her relationship with Ann’s father Otto. Otto was the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust, and arranged for the publication of Anne’s diary..jpg)
