Rotary meeting minutes of 2/2/17
President Benita opened the meeting in order to accommodate the schedule of our speaker. She informed us that it is Groundhog Day and added the interesting information that, before German farmers emigrated to Punxsutawney, they would start planting crops when hedgehogs emerged from hibernation. When they found no hedgehogs, they subbed groundhogs into the game. Groundhogs are also known as woodchucks and whistle pigs.Bob Vaughn introduced our speaker, Wendy L. Patrick, an author, speaker, media commentator (over 1,000 media appearances), and career trial attorney named as the Public Lawyer of the Year by the California State Bar. She is a prosecutor in the Special Operations Division of the San Diego District Attorney's Office named by her peers as one of the Top Ten criminal attorneys in San Diego by the San Diego Daily Transcript.
She has completed over 165 trials ranging from hate crimes, to domestic violence, to first-degree murder. Wendy spoke to us about her book, Red Flags, which is about to spot frenemies, underminers and toxic people in your life.

Bob Barr gave an inspiring invocation, and then President Benita thanked Frances Blair as Greeter, John O’Neill as scribe, Joel Doss and Judy Lutticken for their excellent work at the check-in desk, the setup crew of Doug Dawson, Judy Lutticken and Paul Donick and our esteemed photographer James Kaspar. Frances introduced the guests and Jim Sommer brilliantly led the welcome song.
The presidential announcements were that the next TGIX will be at Mira Bozanich’s home on Friday 2/17 at 5:30pm. Call Mira to RSVP and find out what to bring. Also, at our evening meeting next Thursday evening we will feature the 4-Way Speech contestants. Phil Warner asked for our help at the RB Community Presbyterian Church food packing party at 10am February 11th at the Church. Call Phil if you are interested in participating.Finemaster John O’Neill regaled the group with variety of good and bad jokes. He fined the great Dave Brooks for once again getting his photo in the paper for volunteering to head up the Spirit of the 4th celebration. Many generous members contributed Happy Bucks.
President Benita closed the meeting with this quote: Do not expect people to be the best they are. Expect them to be the best they can become. (Janet Nelson)John O'Neill, Scribe.
