***Stoneridge Country Club is the location for our meetings through March of 2017 (or until BHCC is reopened). Stoneridge will have a courtesy golf cart shuttle to pick you up in the parking lot if you prefer that to walking.***

MINUTES 2/16/17
President Elect Mike Fuqua call the meeting order with the theme of Peace and Conflict Prevention. Also noting that February is the month of love.Pledge of Allegiance was led by Rick Bramble, asking each of us to ponder “what the flag means to me”.
The Inspirational message was given by Troy Daum, citing a “Rotary Moment” with RYLA interviews being special to him.
Greeter Doug Dawson introduced guests, along with two visiting Rotarians. All were greeted with our “Welcome Song”.
President Elect Mike thanked this weeks volunteers: Joel Doss and Troy Daum at the front desk, Judy Lutticken and Paul Donick for set up, scribe Rz Norris, and our photographer James Kaspar.
President Elect Mike spoke of the PETS conference, saying it was well organized, inspiring and motivational. He urged all members to attend sometime, whether or not they were President Elect.Thank you cards from various schools were presented, thanking the Club for dictionaries and thesauruses delivers to 3rd and 4th graders in the area last month. We were reminded of the District Training Assembly on March 18th , and of the International Convention in Atlanta in June. 15 Club members have signed up to attend this Convention. Troy Daum spoke about RYLA interviews at Del Norte HS. There were 40 applicants there. Materials for the planter boxes for Del Norte HS special education program have been received. Vern Cook mentioned the Feb.20th dinner service at Ronald McDonald house. The volunteer list is complete for that date. He also thanked those who contributed items for the Hygiene Kits, which will be assembled and delivered to Interfaith in Escondido.
Karen Stelman: Family of Rotary. Pat Kenny is looks good and is in good spirits. Don Lisio is recuperating well. Suzie is doing as well as can be expected.President Elect Mike presided over the induction of new Rotary member, Traci Smart. Her sponsor, Don Glover, and mentor, Judy Lutticken, presented Traci with her Rotary Pin and folio.
Arilla St. Laurent auctioned off the monthly flower arrangement, a succulent garden in a wine bottle. Active bidding brought the prize to Joel Doss.
James Kaspar presented Paul Harris Fellow Foundation membership awards. Cathy Glover, 1 yr., Arilla St. Laurent, Shirley Napierala, Russ Haskell, Jeanne and John Hawkins, Bob Barr, each 4 yrs. Don Glover, 5 years. John O’Neil, Ron Hunt and Gary Saks each with 6yrs. Major donors were asked to stand and be recognized.Dave Brooks presided over Perfect Attendance awards: Vern Cook, 1 year, Arilla St.Laurent, 3 years, John Goodrich, Don Glover and Dave Brooks each with 4 years. Gayla Williams, 10 years. Dave remembered Jim Edwards who had perfect attendance for 57 years.
Bob Vaughn introduced our speaker for the evening, Bill Swietzer, from the Ramona Valley Vintners Association. The Association established a viable vineyards, from scratch, in San Diego County. Jim Hyldahl presented the speakers’ gift book: “Finding Serendipity”.Upcoming programs: San Diego Bowl Games Feb. 23rd , and Angels Foster Family Network March 2nd.
President elect Mike closed the meeting with several “wine oriented” sayings.
