Rotary meeting minutes 12/3/15

Most club members arrived early for a photo session, which turned out to be only for board members. This extra time allowed for a great deal more social interaction time for the members, always a good thing.

President Arilla opened the meeting by thanking volunteers Doug Dawson as greeter, Dan Malloy for can excellent Inspirational Thought, and John O’Neill as scribe. Jim Sommer led us in a rousing welcome song, and then joined with Jeanne Hawkins on the piano for a spontaneous rendition of God Bless America. For the meeting set up Arilla thanked Vern Cook and Judy Lutticken, plus Sonny Googins and Joel Doss for manning the check-in desk. Also receiving special mention were our club photographer, James Kaspar, club secretary Jeanne Hawkins and newsletter publisher Bill Angus. We also enjoyed the wonderful pre-meeting piano music provided by our own John Hawkins.

VP Mira Bozanich gave us a Family of Rotary update on Jim Edwards. Jim is recuperating at home and hopes to rejoin us soon. Don Glover then conducted a vote for the new slate of board members and the 2018-2019 president-elect Mike Fuqua. All the nominees were unanimously approved. Benita Page announced that the checks to pay for this years’ holiday party are due today.

RB Foundation president, Gary Saks, presented checks to two worthy community organizations. Jennifer Alllen, representing Palomar Health Lifeline, received a $500 donation. Our own Tesha Young accepted a $1000 donation to The Boys and Girls Club.

Jim Sommer provided a lively and informative Who Am I. He revealed that his first love was music and he revealed a very sexy poster of himself as part of a record promo. On top of that, Jim finished his talk by serenading us by playing a guitar and singing a lovely song. Amazing!

Finemaster John O’Neill sustained a terrible blow when informed there would be no fining this December. This unfortunate state of affairs is due to making sure that club donations for the RBHS Madrigals and our faithful BHCC wait staff are as generous as possible. The finemaster is currently recovering from his wounds.

Speaker Chair Sonny Googins introduced our speaker, Jessica Jones, from the Poseidon Desalination Project in Carlsbad. This project will turn seawater into pure, fresh water. This extraordinary resource will supply 10% of the drinking water in San Diego County for many years. President Arilla adjourned the meeting and reminded us that next Thursday our annual Holiday party will be held at RBCC. The festivities will begin at 5:30pm.
