HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

RB Rotary meeting minutes – December 17, 2015

The meeting was called to order early by President Arilla because of our special guest performers today. The pledge was led by new member Doug Dawson, who said he really enjoyed doing this because it had been so many years since he had done it (grade school).  Carol Kasser provided an inspiring a quote from Helen Keller.  She also told us how much she enjoyed handing out dictionaries and was very pleased to hear one student ask “what is polio?”. Our greeter was new member RZ Norris who was assisted by her daughter Kim.  Because we had so many guests today, she asked each table to do the introductions.  We had two special guests:  Lynn Ross brought both Miss RB Julia Moluf and Miss RB Teen Isabella Ortiz. Past presidents Gary Saks and Jim Sommer were once again pressed into service to lead us in our beloved welcome song.

Arilla thanked the following for their help at this meeting:  Troy Daum and Joel Doss at the check-in desk; Paul Donick and Vern Cook for room setup; James Kaspar for his fine photos; Bill Angus for assembling the weekly newsletter and scribing by me, Dave Brooks.

Everyone in the Family of Rotary is OK.  We were very glad to see Carl Hoffman and Jim Edwards attending today.  President Arilla gave a Spark Plug award to past president Shirley Napierala for her excellent work on organizing the holiday and birthday parties.   She also gave a recognition pin to Don Lisio for his work on the Adopt-a-Family program which collected $1855 to make the holidays better for several families. She then had the pleasure of inducting our newest Honorary Member:  Henry Wolterman with proud mom Stephanie looking on.

We sang “Happy Birthday” and had cake for our members and guests with December birthdays.  Of particular note was General Carl Hoffman, who will turn 96 years old on the 24th.

Past president Larry Valente auctioned off the Cozy Posy flowers to himself; no one would outbid him!

We will be dark on December 24th and 31st; the next meeting is at lunchtime on January 7th.

Speaker chair Sonny Googins introduced Lisa Friedrichs, the director of the RBHS Madrigals.  These 27 students sang to us for over 40 minutes and answered all our questions about them and music.  It was wonderful.

President Arilla asked me to add that the club’s generosity continues:  we collected $600 for the wait staff and $944 for the Madrigals.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A JOYFUL NEW YEAR!!!
