Rotary meeting minutes of 12/1/16
President Benita fell ill before the meeting began and had to leave early. Please get well soon! Running the meeting duties were placed in the capable hands of past president Don Glover. Mike Fuqua led the Pledge of Allegiance. Don Glover gave an excellent invocation, and then thanked John O’Neill as scribe, Phil Warner as greeter, Joel Doss and Judy Lutticken for their excellent work at the check-in desk and the setup crew of Doug Dawson, Judy Lutticken and Paul Donick. Phil Warner introduced the guests and the welcome song was brilliantly led by the duo of Gary Saks and Jim Sommer. Phil then gave us his Who-Am-I.
The presidential announcements were that the last day to donate to Adopt-A-Family is December 5th, today is the last day to reserve your place at the Holiday Party on December 8th and that the club will be dark on December 22nd and 29th. Larry Saunders reminded all that 8 to 10 volunteers are still needed for the Boys and Girls Club community project on December 20th. Vern Cook will be sending out a follow-up email asking for help. Larry also asked for the project volunteers to bring clean, old t-shirts of any color you have, plus a couple of pairs of scissors, so they can be made into dog chews with the help of 80 to100 K thru 8th grade students. The Madrigals will serenade us on the 15th. Since this a very popular meeting, we need to know if you will be bringing guests for this very special event. Jim Sommer will be sending an email soon asking for the number of extra guests.
Frances Blair presented the list of nominations for the 2018-2019. They are:President – Mike Fuqua; President-Elect Delegate – Doug Dawson; Vice-President – Karen Stelman; Treasurer – Troy Daum; Secretary – Jeanne Hawkins. The election will be held January 5th, 2017 at our regular Thursday meeting.
Mira Bozanich introduced our speaker, former District Governor Jim O’Meara, who gave us a presentation about the Rotary sponsored Orphan’s Relief Project in Africa. This fine effort helps bring water wells, bathrooms, schools and agricultural training for the people in villages around the country.
Emergency stand-in Past President Don adjourned the meeting with this closing Inspirational thought from Aesop: No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted.
John O'Neill, Scribe.
