The August 25th meeting of RB Rotary was called to order by President Benita at 12:30 P.M. The pledge was led by Dick Norfolk.The inspirational message was presented by Charlie Crew who noted the Wright Brothers progress from bikes to flight. The memorable message from the Wrights was "The last dividends on the labor invested have invariably come from seeking knowledge rather than more power."
President Benita acted as Greeter, calling on members' guests present. Joel Doss led the greeting song, professing that 'most of you think I don't know the words' but he clearly does, and has the key as well !
President Benita thanked the volunteers : Scribe, Sonny Googins, Front Desk, Joel Doss, Set Up Crew, Doug Dawson, and Paul Donick.
Announcements included: Cards circulated for Suzie Lisio, Pat Kenney and Jim Edwards.
A thank you note was received from Marilyn.
A tea celebrating 30 years of Women in Rotary is being held September 25. Members are encouraged to attend.
A Foundation Seminar will be held on October 8.
In consideration of recent disasters in Louisiana and Italy, floods and earthquakes, respectively, District notice was sent requesting donations. Both the Club Board and Club Foundation will be asked to approve donations to both if these disasters.Future meetings may be affected by construction at BHCC wherein we may have meetings outside
Just for fun, Rz Norris and Sonny Googins presented a short explanation of the term "Dog Days of Summer" and especially August, as a side theme for this meetings. Cards with pictures of hundreds of dogs were placed on tables to carry out the theme to also note National Dog Day, August 26.
On a more serious note, MikeFuqua requested that we complete a survey that asked questions to take stock of our meetings and our club, to make our service and mission better.
Arilla conducted the plant auction which was won by Joel Doss.
An informative and entertaining program was presented by Paul Greenwood, Assistant District Attorney. His division specializes in prosecuting those involved in "Elder Abuse,." both financial the physical. A brochure capturing the top ten scams pulled on the elderly that he discussed was distributed to the membership. As a special note,Paul introduced us to the acronym SKI (an indeal elderly kind of vacation) that grandparents should keep in mind: SPEND KIDS INHERITANCE. The meeting concluded at 1:30 P.M.
