Meeting Minutes
August 10, 2017

President Mike brought the meeting to order and led us in a hearty recitation of the 4 Way Test. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by new member Jim Reid who showed a YouTube video for the song “It’s a Grand Old Flag” (the audio portion was not great; we are still working on that).

New member David King read us an inspirational message.

At this point Kristin Gaspar arrived and President Mike turned the podium over to her. She talked about her experience in Rotary helping seniors and said she would continue this work as our new county supervisor.

After she finished, answered a few questions and left, greeter and new member Scott Lawn introduced several guests including Helen Vaughn, Jess Dawson, Didi Saks, Sandra Reid, Cindy Pearson, April Mitchell and Barb Crew (introduced by Larry Valente!). Past President Jim Sommer did his usual great job leading us in our welcome song.
Mike thanked our volunteers: room setup by Sgt. at Arms Judy Lutticken, Doug Dawson, and past President Paul Donick; check-in by Joel Doss and Sonny Googins; photography by James Kaspar; past President Bill Angus for doing the newsletter and these words by your humble scribe, past President Dave Brooks.

Past President Benita announced that we have collected over $650 in school supplies. They will be donated to children at the Escondido Salvation Army this Saturday morning. She also thanked Susan and David King for their help with this effort.
Alex Lawn told us again about his campaign for RB Honorary Mayor; his big fundraising event will be 5pm on August 28th at the Country Club of RB.
Vern Cook told us about a new service project at Ed Brown Senior Center. The August TGIX will be held at Larry and Virginia Valente’s house on August 25th at 5:30pm.
President Mike gave Rotary coins to Gayla Williams and Phil Warner for their work with youth.

Bill Brehm was inducted as a new member by President Mike. His sponsor is Dan Barrios and his classification is newspaper publishing.
The August 24th meeting will be outside in the Pavilion.
President Mike closed the meeting with a quote from Ronald Reagan: “there is no limit to what a man can do if he doesn’t mind who gets the credit.”
