ROTARY CLUB OF RANCHO BERNARDO

The meeting was called to order by President Mike, who reminded us of Rotary’s years of service and leading the Rotary pledge. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jim Sommers, who led the song “Grand Old Flag” as today’s form of the pledge. The Inspirational message by Don Glover spoke of the many honors he has received from Rotary and the Community, and how grateful and happy we all can be for our daily blessing of giving as well as receiving.


Diane Remick helped introduce our visitor’s, and led the group in the Club Welcome Song. It was noted that several members have, or are celebrating birthdays, including our own Joe Max who continues to inspire us at 100 plus!
President Mike thanked today volunteers: Don Glover and Joel Doss at the front desk, Paul Donnick and his set up crew, James Kaspar, ever our photographer, and Rz Norris for Scribe.

President Mike said he had received thanks, a Club flag, and a booklet from the Port Lavaca Rotary Club. Our membership sent financial aid to the Club and its members following the hurricanes last fall. Larry Saunders reminded us of the combined project with the Mira Mesa Rotary Club coming up May 1st, as well as the upcoming Ronald McDonald House dinner service on April 28th. He also said the Interfaith lunch service has been postponed. There are several new projects in the works.

President Mike reminded us that our Club meetings will be held a CCRB on May 10th (evening), and June 7th (noon). Food drive Chair, Frances Blair, introduced Rob Shover from Interfaith. He will be receiving the record 5000 pounds of food that the Club has collected for the Interfaith Food Pantry. Rob also explained the successful “Make it a Home” project, which has placed some 700 people in housing this year. He said the project could use donated furniture for the apartments they are able to provide for their people.

John Kasser call to order a meeting of the R B Rotary Foundation, to which all Club members belong. The Foundation Board members from our Club are John, Charlie Crew and Dan Malloy. The board had requested a re-write of the Foundation By Laws, which were presented to all members for review by email, and is now requesting approval of those By Laws by Club Foundation members. A motion to approve was made and seconded. Vote by voice carried approval for the motion. Also, Charlie Crew was nominated for another term on the Foundation Board. A motion to approve his nomination was made and seconded. Vote by voice carried approval for the motion. John Kasser then adjourned the R B Rotary Foundation meeting.

President Mike mentioned the visit to the Camp Pendleton Brig, to observe the POOH program to train service dogs, on April 17th. Funding is needed for this program to support the $1,200 to train these dogs. Individual donations are welcome. He also reminded us of the Padre game on April 29th, and the District Conference being held at Knotts Berry Farm on May 4-5.

Dan Barrios presented a 6th level Paul Harris Fellowship pin to Russ Haskell.
Arilla St. Laurent said that Vern Cook has had Cataract surgery.


Our Fine Master, John O’Neill and Jim Hyldahl had an interesting discussion on the “rule” about men wearing pink in our club. Jim lost…….and the fines continue.

A lovely flower arrangement was auctioned off by Rick Bramble.

Maureen Rouleau gave a “Who Am I?” talk today, about her interesting upbringing in Alaska and her career in the travel business.


Jim Sommers introduced Jasmine Harris, a Volunteer for the California Innocence Project, which works to exonerate prison inmates who are innocent of their charged crime, and also to change policy and legislation on criminal law in California.

President Mike closed the meeting with quotes on healing philosophies.
