RB Rotary Minutes-September 6, 2018
President Doug convened the meeting at 12:30 p.m. leading us in the recitation of the 4 Way Test.  Scott Lawn greeted us, led us in the pledge and later conducted the rounds of visiting guests, speaker and potential members. Toby Westbrook took us to “The Hundred Acres Woods,” home of Winnie the Poo, and the land of Mark Twain in his inspiration. Suggested reading: “The Tao of Poo!  A vigorous singing of our Welcome Song was led by Joel.
Meeting volunteers were thanked: Front Desk Joel, Charley Crew, Jeanne Hawkins; Set-Up –Paul D. and Pat Chaffee, Photographer-James Kaspar and Scribe, Sonny Googins.
Mike Fuqua invited, once again, members to sign up for Vines and Vittles, our 2019 fund raiser.  Mike presented a slide of the litter of Tender Loving Canines, seven pups, born and cared for at  Camp  Pendleton’s Brig and thanked all for the support on behalf of Jim Hyldahl and himself. Sunrise Escondido is sponsoring a 5K Walk/Run in downtown Escondido on October 6th.
Alan commented on a potential Interfaith matching grant request and reminded us of all the good projects Interfaith does, many of which RB Rotary participates.  For Family of Rotary, Arilla reported good news of John O’Neill’s back surgery progress; send cards, etc. but no visits. Don Glover is still ‘gate keeper’ for visits.  A menacing cartoon of a stern pink lady introduced Arilla’s role as Fine Mistress. All members were fined $1 for leaving Dave Brooks alone at a table. In spite of that, many Happy Bucks followed for nice events and thoughts.
Pat Chaffee introduced Steve Littlefield , who under the title of “Gratitude,” reinforced how important a thank you note was-especially versus an email (has a delete button) in not only building your business but providing opportunities for growing personal relationships.  We were asked to write such a note. A long term hospitalization provided Steve with the time and inclination to write the book.
Jim Hyldahl, in his inimitable style, offered the gift book of “ Sergeant Reckless”, and Army horse hero as an example of a life dedicated to saving soldiers for which many should be grateful.
Calendar: September 7, President Doug’s TGIX –over 50 attending. September 15 Rotary  Leadership Council. Sign up on line. Rotary5340.org.
Upcoming Programs:  Sept. 12-Robert Lutticken on Abraxas.  Special  visitors: from Tijuana  Kumial.  September 20 Betty  Mohlenbrock & Marianne Waldrop:  Empowering  Youth through shared reading experiences.

President Doug concluded the meeting with a joke about a non-charitable giver who wouldn’t qualify for a Rotarian who makes a difference!
