Meeting Minutes
September 19, 2019
Co-presidents Susan and David King brought the meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mike Fuqua who told us about Betsy Ross and some facts about the flag.  Karen Stelman inspired us with quotes from famous people.
Our greeter was Pat Chaffee who introduced our guests including our special guest, District Governor Marta Knight.  She was accompanied by her chief of staff Cheryl Minshew.  Joel Doss lead us with baton in hand in a thundering rendition of our historical, melodious, world-renowned Welcome Song.

President Susan thanked our volunteers:  room setup by Jim Reid; check-in by Joel Doss and Maguy Feghali; meeting pictures by James Kaspar; Bill Angus for doing the newsletter; meeting organization by John O’Neill and these words by your humble scribe, Dave Brooks.
President Dave then led the induction of Lisa de la Torre, the manager of our bank, the RB branch of Banc of California.  Her sponsor is Alan Turner and her mentor is Benita Page.  DG Marta helped with the ceremony.
Foundation chair Dan Barrios recognized Bill Angus as a major donor.
Assistant Governor Don Glover introduced DG Marta who spoke on several topics.
She congratulated us for our achievements including the Seven Oaks clean up, our support of Vista Hill, the coordination of the International Youth Symphony, our work at Ronald McDonald House and our successful Vines & Vittles fundraiser.
DG Marta asks each club to help her recognize a “Club Super Hero”, and your scribe was stunned to be selected.  She gave me this pin:

Marta has been a member of Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary for 16 years.  She let a Group Study Exchange team of educators to Ecuador.  She is a 3rd generation Rotarian, and her father was District 4100 governor twice.

She told us that a study had been done to estimate Rotary’s impact on the world; it revealed that we had performed 45 million volunteer hours with an estimated financial impact of $850,000,000.

She encouraged us to help in the observance of World Polio Day on October 24th.  She also invited us to her District Conference which will be on April 17-18, 2020 at the Coronado Community Center.

We ended the meeting by giving DG Marta a bouquet of flowers and taking a picture of everyone wearing their “End Polio Now” tee-shirt with DG Marta.
