Co-president Susan King called the meeting to order and lead the reciting of the Four-Way Test. The pledge was led by Gary Saks who introduced the Pledge with a very enjoyable video depicting children of all ages reciting our Pledge of Allegiance, the Inspirational Message was given by Phil Warner and enjoyed and appreciated by all. Don Glover, filling in for Benita Page, introduced guests and fellow Rotarians and Joel led us in our renowned welcome song.


Co-President Susan thanked today’s volunteers: Scribe Diane Remick, Joel Doss and Dick Norfolk at the front desk, John Kasser for set up, photographer James Kaspar and John O’Neill for organizing volunteers.


Jim Hyldahl, announced plans are coming along nicely for the planned Oaks North Clean Up Day, Saturday, November 19th. More to come. Mike Stelman and Brett updated us about club participation in the RB Sunrise Club Beernardo Festival on Saturday October 26. Sunrise is asking for our club for volunteer assistance and encouraged our members to sign up to volunteer.

Donald Glover encouraged members to join 33 members already attending annual Rancho Bernardo foundation luncheon at the RB Inn on November 22. Don also asked any members planning to apply for organization grants to get forms to him, as grant decisions will be made in November. Terry Heck, during a recent trip to New Orleans, visited a new Orleans Rotary club for lunch and traded Rotary flags. He presented the New Orleans flag to Co-President Susan.

RZ Norris and the social committee would like to schedule one more TGIX night before the end of the year and asked for ideas. A tentative event set for November 15th, is attendance at SDSU vs Fresno State football game.


Dan Barrios, Rotary Foundation Chairman, presented Patrick Chaffee with his Paul Harris Fellow award and Arilla St Laurent with a $6000 Rotary Foundation contribution level pin containing five sapphires . Dan informed members we are a 100% Rotary foundation contribution club. Congratulations! Dan provided individual envelopes on the entry table for each member noting their total contributions.


Co-President Dave introduced new member, Joe Leventhal, who gave a very informative “Who Am I” presentation. On completion he was awarded his gold badge signifying he is a full member of the club. Welcome Joe!!

Arilla, Family of Rotary, had no report. Good news! John was very prolific with his fines today. All members in “Bernardo News Journal” recent photo wearing their “End Polio“ T-shirts fined $10 each. Jim Sommer fined for wearing his hat inside during the meeting. Jim Hyldahl donated 20 happy bucks congratulating Joe Leventhal on becoming a regular member. Arilla, Troy, Terry and Alan all contributed to the Happy Bucks collection.

Patrick Chaffee introduced today’s speaker, Cindy Stankowski, from the San Diego Archeological Society who spoke about the archaeology history of San Diego County and the goal of preserving and sharing discoveries. Her presentation was informative interspersed with humor. Very engaging speaker. There are 18 Indian reservations in the county. Over 1,600,000 artifacts have been on unearthed and many available for the public to enjoy at their headquarters near the Wild Animal Park where they hold receptions, informative programs and classes.
