The Opening Bell
President Jim Reid opened the meeting at 12:30 p.m. by leading us in the Four-Way Test and the Pledge.
The Rotary Bowl
Ken Heinz kicked off pre-game commentary about the strengths and strategies of the contenders for the 30th annual Rotary Bowl trophy. The game will be held at the Mt. Carmel High School stadium on Friday, October 27. Ken introduced RB High’s coach Eric Weddell and Mt. Carmel’s coach Drew Westling, who in turn presented several of their key players.
Coach Weddle said he and his counterpart don’t coach for the money. They do it to help mold young men into good fathers and good citizens. And it is gratifying for him to be associated with such fine young men. He said his team’s win-loss record for the season thus far is 4 to 5 and they will be fighting to win the 19-pound Rotary Bowl trophy.
Coach Westling said that his team has not beat RB High since 2002 but if they don’t win on Friday night they would go down swinging. He said that after each game he has noticed that people ask Coach Weddle for his autograph but he’s never been asked for one.
Several of the student players noted lessons learned. One player said hard work produced results, though it took time.

President Jim thanked the following volunteers for the day: Greeter, Susan Lewallen; Inspirational Message, Bob Vaughn; Scribe, Marty Judge; Front Desk, Joel Doss and Johanna Mullin; Guest photographer, Mike Fuqua; and Welcome Song, Joel Doss.
Inspirational Message
Bob Vaughn’s message was taken from the poem, “An Ode to A Volunteer,” that said there is a special place in Heaven set aside for volunteers.
