RB Rotary October 22, 2020 Meeting Minutes
President Alex convened the Club Assembly Meeting at 11:00 a.m. October 22nd with all stating The Four-Way Test. The unique format featured multiple RB Rotary projects and their leaders. 42 members attended , perhaps a new record? Jim Hyldahl gave members flag protocols before leading us in the Pledge, some of which include: It is inappropriate to wear the flag as apparel, though many do; you can fly the flag at night, but it should be lit; flown upside down, signals an SOS; it is flown at 'wind speed' for the best effect; and should be displayed with the starts to the left. Joel Doss, in his best voice, sang our Welcome Song, while we intelligently remained mute, to not destroy the mood.
President Alex thanked volunteers Mike Fuqua, set-up, Sonny Googins, Scribe and Bill Angus, Newsletter and Minutes Editor,Toby Westbrook took us to thoughts of Walden Pond reflections for Inspiration and asked us to reflect on what we'd choose if asked....."Give me.............?"
Arilla, Family of Rotary, with Gary Sak's personal comments, told of his recovery and all were grateful for that! Then John O' received the Boo-tiful Welcome he deserved to host Happy Bucks which were plentiful. We celebrated everything from Jim H's home-smoked bacon, trips, new car, to Don Glover's upcoming End Polio Jumping Event on Halloween in Jamul. A Cadre of over 30 will witness, 7 will jump and Jo Casterline is going along for the plane ride to watch our Rotarian 'Soar' in the name of 'End Polio.'

The Assembly began, requesting a 5 minute limit per presentation (which most observed). Doug Dawson began detailing the elaborate "Peace" efforts which have become very active under his guidance. Add to this Athenea Luciano's Imperial Valley project, the focus being how Covid 19 has affected immigrant families among other activities. Doug identified his committee members and explained Rotary's National efforts. Also extensive are our Community Service programs described by Jim Hyldahl for himself and Vern C. as is Youth Services programs under Terry Heck's leadership; Diversity, John Goodrich; Club and National Rotary Foundations under the guidance of Mike Fuqua and Dan Barrios, respectively. More details of all these areas would make these minutes a long documentary.
Jim Reid thanked all for their matching gift donations of $1600 for the Poway Symphony Orchestra, and Don Glover thanks all for their Skydive involvement; special note of Jo C. also taking flight in support-a Polio victim in her early life.
The Assembly Reports certainly made all attending Rotarians very proud and somewhat exhausted hearing from our faithful leaders. What a great idea! And no wonder why 'we are the best.'
Next meeting, October 29, 11:00 a.m. Program: Steve South , CEO EDCO Sanitation. introduced by Jim Hyldahl.
