RANCHO BERNARDO ROTARY CLUB October 18, 2018 Meeting Minutes
President Doug convened the evening meeting with all reciting the Four Way Test. Frances Blair led the Pledge noting that this might be her last meeting before she and her husband become Texans. Frances was thanked for her years of service to our club. Vern Cook treated us to Dr. Seuss philosophy for his inspiration. Shirley N. introduced our guests which included Shirley Kirkpatrick, candidate for RB’s next Honorary Mayor.  Shirley also auctioned off a donated plant, won by John Goodrich-for his wife he noted.  Joel D. kept us on key for our Welcome Song, occasionally a tough job.
Meeting volunteers were thanked by President Doug: Front Desk, Joel, Phil, Alex Lawn;  Set-Up, Paul Donnick, Jim Reid; Photographer, James Kaspar; Scribe, Sonny Googins.  President Doug noted that Oct. 24 was Polio Day and encouraged all contribute to “Pass The Hat” and double their Happy Buck.
The work done at Seven Oaks, led by Jim Hyldahl, was celebrated. We received a thank you note for all the work which included filling a construction bin, and volunteers working for four hours to accomplish the clean-up.
Dave Brooks encouraged our attendance on Nov. 16 for the annual RB Foundation Thanksgiving Dinner at the RB Inn at noon. Usually we fill two tables. Doug noted that IDs will be required by 2020 and can be obtained at the DMV to board airplanes. Birth Certificates will be needed. Otherwise you’ll need a passport. Two events noted were The Foundation Gala and Governor’s Meeting. Wear Rotary attire to the latter.  Check the web for info.
Family of Rotary: Karen Stelman informed us of Arilla’s heart surgery. No calls or visits, but cards are encouraged. Bob Barr‘s advancing Parkinson's Disease will not enable him to continue at Rotary; and Dan Barrios’ wife has had a knee replacement.  We wish you all speedy recoveries. Susan King’s Fine session caught Jim Reid extending the shorts season-her gentle manner cut short the fines as she encouraged ...  [Publisher's Note: Awaiting receipt of part 2 of minutes at time of publication deadline and will update this story once received]
