The sound of the bell stopped the lively social time of a full house of Rotarians-happy to be live face to face at the Club.  Katie Hunter greeted all as we entered and later introduced guests.
We recited the Four-Way Test, Pledged the flag with John Mullin's leading us, and John Goodrich in his inspiration reminded us of how rich we were compared to the rest of the world having simple things like water and shelter-and food-not available to so many. We are blessed.  Joel Doss enthusiastically added the melody to welcome all. Volunteers were thanked: Bill Angus, Newsletter; Sonny Googins, Scribe; Bill Brehm, Sargent-at Arms; Jim Reid, Pat Chaffee, Joel Doss, Front Desk; and James Kaspar, Photographer.
Co-President Athenea informed us of the RB Imperial Valley Global Grant Project which educates migrant children virtually and otherwise and provides cell phones, computers, tutoring and testing. This is a Department of Education approved program where in 75 children cost only $3,000 to participate. Arilla, Family of Rotary caught us up to fellow Rotarians ailing and encouraged us to inform her personally of others so she can send cards, call, etc.  She then assumed her role of Fine Mistress and was properly Booooed!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Mike Fuqua invited members to consider participating in Project Mercy. The goal: Build 6 homes in Tecate, Mexico. See him for details.  Dave King reminded us that 200 boxes of Poinsettias are ordered...waiting for us to buy and sell for the Holidays.
SPEAKER: Chris Romero is the Regional Manager of the Outreach Program. We discovered amazingly that they have fed to date, over 600 million people since their start in 2004.  Founders Floyd and Kathy Hammer began this project modestly and unbelievably package full meals with volunteers for 30 cents per unit.  President George Bush recognized the Hammers as part of his 1,000 Points of  Light!  Over 10 meals constitute the variety at this time. Volunteers assemble, weigh and seal the product-working with Rotary clubs, United Way and others.  Pre-Covid 300,000 was average. Now- 7.9 million in California alone. What an accomplishment. Even breakfast is included. Groups fund-raise for the product, gather and assemble.
