A boisterous social time preceded the bell 'call to order 'by President Alan. The room had turned bright red, with our Rotarian End Polio Now shirts, the fashion of the day, in honor of our long-standing project and presence of guest, District Governor Pretto. Recitation of the Four Way Test followed.

Ken Heinz led the pledge with the unique preamble that "few things are more American than High School Friday Night Football ." Athenea presented the inspiration and Terry Heck conducted introductions that included many visiting Rotarians, spouses and friends. Coaches and football team members from Rancho Bernardo and Mt.Carmel High Schools were guests too. Our energetic song master, baton swirling, circulated the room while leading the Welcome song to all.
It was announced that Matching Gift applications were due by the end of the week. Fine Master, John O'Neil requested 'putting aside' the rule of not fining Presidents while in office. The reason: President Alan's absence from Vines & Vittles, our club's major fund raiser, because he was on vacation. OOOh. It was a big one!

Janet Gallagher was inducted into membership, and is to be mentored by Past-President Benita. Their casual meeting in Chicos led to her membership. Opportunities everywhere.
Bob Vaughan was joined by Governor Pretto and President Alan to present Shirley Napierala her sixth Paul Harris award. John O'Neill was recognized for reaching the $10,000 level.
Vista Hill was presented a $3500 award. Gov. Pretto noted the power of Rotary collaboration as other clubs contributions totaled over $22,000-Sweet Water, Ramona, Poway, Encinitas, Santee, Fall Brook, La Mesa, Rancho Bernardo and San Diego.
Our guest speaker Chuck Pretto, a 34 year Rotarian, inspired us all. His focus on 'adolescent mental health ' is personal, involving his daughter. With treatment , she is managing and coping. Problems begin as early as 7 to 12 year olds Rady's Children's Hospital admitted over 5,000 children for treatment. Treatment includes suicide prevention as well. Covid isolation , etc. have been factors for rising numbers of cases. Hosting Exchange students has been a significant part of Chuck's family Rotary dedication. Thank you, Chuck.
