RANCHO BERNARDO ROTARY
NOVEMBER 17, 2022

Following an early Thanksgiving luncheon, Club President Alan Turner opened our meeting leading the members reciting Four Way Test. The Pledge was led by Gary Saks, who read a poem he wrote, an updated version paralleling the Pledge. The Inspirational Message was given by Mike Fuqua. He gave a history of the creation of “Thanksgiving”, from its’ inception by George Washington to its’ holiday declaration in 1941 by President Roosevelt.

Announcements:

Shirley Napierala said the Adopt A Family drive is ongoing, raising funds to buy gifts for children in the Poway Unified School District living at or below the poverty level. She passed around a sign-up sheet for members who wish to donate. Checks should be made out to the Rancho Bernardo Rotary Club Foundation.
Terri Hunter said the Pajama drive will continue until December 18th. Donated children’s pajamas can be brought to the meetings, or Terri can pick them up.

Mike Fuqua said The Build a House project in Tecate, Mexico, in concert with other Rotary Clubs, is in the formation stage. Those interested in participating were asked to stay after the meeting for an update.

Vines & Vittles is in the organizing stage, Mike said. A new date, May 21, 2023, has been firmed up for Webb Park. He has some chairs for committees lined up, but more are needed. He passed around a sign-up form for those wishing to participate.

Family of Rotary: John O’Neill said Don Glover and Arilla St Laurant are both recovering and taking it easy.
Cathy Glover is heading the See’s Candy fundraiser orders. Orders can be made through her or online. Order forms were on all the tables today.

John changed hats, and the Fine Master received a hearty round of Boo’s. He gave only one fine, but received lots of Happy Bucks.

A Foundation Check Presentation was made to “Parenting EQ”, which evolved from teachers' concerns for students in the Poway School District. Amy Sage, Roni Nocon and Christine Testa were on hand to receive a $3000 check.

Mindy has been with Ronald McDonald House since 2017. Her background is in Marketing and Public Relations, as well as Fund Raising. After being with Rady Children’s’ Hospital she came to RMH as Chief Philanthropic Officer.
